Lorient Preview – Can Lorient hold their own?
Sunday’s hosts, Lorient, achieved automatic promotion from Ligue 2 at the conclusion of last season’s second tier campaign and they start this new Ligue 1 season on home turf at their Stade Yves Allainmat with a home fixture against a Strasbourg side who gave a good account of themselves last term.

Lorient were last in the French top flight three years ago and ended that season without a win from their last four matches which contributed to their eventual relegation from Ligue 1, while they’ve beaten Strasbourg just once in their previous four encounters.
Strasbourg Preview – Can Strasbourg produce another solid campaign?
Strasbourg concluded last season’s solid campaign with a comfortable mid-table 10th place finish in Ligue 1 as they suffered just one defeat from their final five matches of last season which was a heavy 3-0 loss at Montpellier.
Wins against Toulouse and Reims along with points picked up in draws with Lyon and Amiens helped Strasbourg achieve a top half finish in the French top flight and they can be confident that they can at least replicate, if not emulate, last season’s performance.
If they’re to do so though, Strasbourg will probably need to improve upon their results away from home as they ended up with an away record of 4-2-8 10/18 but they lost just two of their final six matches on their travels which will give them confidence on the road this Sunday.
