Ludogorets Preview – Can Bulgarian champions recover from first leg defeat to progress?

Ludogorets have qualified for the group stages of the Champions League twice in the past five years. Considering they enter at the preliminary stages of qualifying it is a decent record and one they will be looking to add to. Bulgarian champions for the past eight years, Ludo are getting very experienced at this format. It does not make it any easier, however, and they have to overcome a 2-1 deficit from last week’s first leg. Stoycho Stoev has returned to the club for a second spell in charge and is under pressure straightaway to deliver.

The coach will be looking to his experienced striker Claudio Keseru to make the difference he so often has in his time at the club.Keseru has scored over 80 goals in his four and a bit years at the club. He’s started the season on fire with two goals in their first league game and will be crucial again tomorrow.

Ferencvaros Preview – Will the visitors have enough to finish the job off from last week and qualify?

The Hungarian champions went into this tie as something of an underdog but they do hold that valuable lead. Despite having a very proud European history, it’s been a really barren period for Ferencvaros of late. Last season’s title triumph was just their second in 14 seasons and they will be hoping to make the most from it. The appointment of Sergey Rebrov as manager last season was a signal of intent and they were duly rewarded with that league title. The challenge for Rebrov now is attempting to make the group stage of a competition he has such fond memories of as a player.

That will not be easy at all but they have accomplished the first objective. By taking a lead with them into tomorrow’s game they have something to defend.

Ludogorets v Ferencvaros Betting Advice

This looked like being a closely fought game when the draw was made and the first leg done nothing to change that opinion. Ferencvaros made home advantage count but with the valuable away goal for Ludogorets it’s all to play for on Wednesday.

It’s debatable whether that lead is going to be enough to see the away side through. Their limited appearances in the Champions League qualification is also a negative. Ludogorets are well versed with these games and their home record is decent. They have not lost a home qualifier since 2015 and they can make home advantage count once again. It could well be decided on away goals or extra-time, but that experience should tell.
