Luton Town’s recent revival in the Championship was brought to an abrupt halt by Reading on the weekend as The Tykes suffered a heavy 5-0 loss at Kenilworth Road which ended a previous encouraging sequence of six matches without defeat in the second tier.

Nathan Jones’ side though have another opportunity to redeem themselves at home on Tuesday night in what is a real ‘six-pointer’ against second from bottom outfit, Barnsley, and Luton’s recent form at Kenilworth Road hasn’t been too bad as the hosts have lost just two of their last seven matches, while 14 of Luton’s 20 home matches have seen both teams score.

Barnsley had also put together a promising three-match unbeaten run in the Championship which included wins against QPR and Blackburn Rovers along with a point in a 0-0 draw at home with Millwall, but their hopes of getting something at Stoke City on the weekend were well and truly dashed.
A heavy 4-0 defeat away from home at The Potters ensured Gerhard Struber’s side remained in the bottom three of the Championship and they now face a tricky trip down to Luton on Tuesday night in what is a crucial clash for both teams.
Nevertheless, Barnsley will take heart from the fact that they’ve collected three away wins from their last five matches on the road with victories gained at Fulham, Hull City and QPR and they know a win here would see The Tykes move to within just one point of Hull City and safety.
