Graeme Jones’ Luton Town are running out of time to save their EFL Championship lives. The Hatters could really do with maximum points from Saturday’s huge match with Neil Harris’ Cardiff City. Having drawn six of their past nine in the league, the Bluebirds will want the points, too. Which way will this one go at Kenilworth Road?

Luton Town Preview: Another nail in the coffin for the struggling Hatters?

Luton Town have had an extremely tough time in the Championship up until now. The Hatters picked up 94 points on their way to winning the EFL League One title last season, but Luton have mustered up just seven Championship wins so far, losing 20 of 30 games.

Town are rock bottom of the division with just 24 points to their name. Graeme Jones’ men begin the weekend seven points adrift of safety. With time running out, Luton will need a miracle in the relegation battle to stay up.

On a more positive note, Luton’s home form has been decent. Town have beaten Huddersfield Town, Bristol City, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Derby County at Kenilworth Road in the Championship this season.

In their last home match, a late Jayden Bogle own goal gave them a vital 3-2 win over Derby. However, they could only follow that up with a 2-0 loss at West Bromwich Albion last weekend. Saturday’s encounter with Cardiff will be another stern test for Luton.

Cardiff City Preview – Will the Bluebirds seal a rare win on their travels this Saturday?

Cardiff City have been very hard to beat since Neil Harris took over at the Cardiff City Stadium. In fact, only Brentford and Bristol City have beaten the Bluebirds in 90 minutes.

However, no side in this season’s Championship have drawn more games than the Welsh side. City have picked up 13 draws, with seven of those coming since Harris took over in South Wales. As a result, Cardiff, who dropped out of the Premier League last term, have never really troubled the top six this season.

Cardiff have also been poor away from home. City have managed just two league victories on the road in the Championship, though both of those have come under Harris. On New Year’s Day, Cardiff started the new decade with a 6-1 mauling at Queens Park Rangers. If the Bluebirds stand any chance of making the play-offs, they must sort out their away form, starting with a win at Luton on Saturday.

Luton Town vs Cardiff City Betting Advice

Cardiff have conceded a bucket load of goals on their travels this season; 31 to be precise. Only bottom club Luton have shipped more so far. However, since that woeful loss at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, Cardiff are unbeaten in three league and cup away games.

Key Facts – Luton Town vs Cardiff City Betting Tip

  • Luton have lost 14 of their last 18 in the Championship
  • Cardiff have been beaten just twice under Harris in the league
  • The Hatters have not won against the Bluebirds in league action since October 2005

The game between Cardiff and Luton at the Cardiff City Stadium back in August was the first meeting between the two clubs since January 2007. The Bluebirds left it late to seal a 2-1 win. A couple of weeks later, however, Luton beat Cardiff 3-0 in the Welsh capital in a Carabao Cup match.

Luton are seriously running out of time, and I can see them falling to yet another Championship defeat at the weekend. It could be a close one, but my money is going on a narrow Cardiff win (13/10).

Cardiff’s Callum Paterson has been in good form of late, scoring three times in his last four appearances. The Scotland international is available at 7/2 to score anytime in this one.
