Lyon Preview – Can Lyon bounce back from disappointing defeat and return to winning ways?

Just as Lyon were getting excited that they may be able to challenge PSG for the title, they go and turn in a pretty horrible performance away to Montpellier. A new manager in charge in the shape of Sylvinho and a club legend in Juninho coming back in a technical role had fans onside even more a ball was kicked. The support was getting even more excited when Lyon scored nine goals without reply in their first two league games. A 3-0 win away to Monaco was followed by a six goal thrashing of Angers. With PSG toiling in the first month hopes were getting raised that Lyon could challenge for the title. Unfortunately, just as they were beginning to think that Montpellier came along and gave them something of a reality check.

There’s no shortage of talent in this squad but the thing they do lack is experience. There will undoubtedly be more emphatic wins to come similar to those over Monaco and Angers throughout the season. But this group of players will have to learn how to win the tighter games, especially on their travels, if they are to even remotely challenge PSG. One player who has been excellent thus far is Moussa Demeble. The young French striker has three goals in as many games and is fast becoming one of the most sought after talents in Europe.

Bordeaux Preview – Will Bordeaux build on first win of  campaign are spring a surprise on Saturday?

Paulo Sousa has been a well traveled coach throughout the years and took over at Bordeaux earlier this year. His initial objective was to steer the club to safety and that was achieved win a minimum of fuss. Expectations are higher for his first full season in charge, though, with a top half finish the low end of that. On the evidence we have seen so far, though, it’s going to be a challenge for them to do better than that. Three games in and Bordeaux have won one, drawn one and lost one. On a more positive note they have done well to recover from a poor 3-1 defeat away to Angers on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Since then, Sousa’s men have drawn at home to Montpellier before registering their first win of the campaign last time out with a good 2-0 win at Dijon. The fixture list has not been kind to them in the opening weeks with this being their third away game in four. Of course, this is the hardest of the lot but with it being the last game before the international break it’s one they will be hoping they can get a positive result from.

Key-Facts – Lyon v Bordeaux

  • Lyon started the season with two impressive wins but were brought back down to earth last time out
  • Bordeaux would have been disappointed with their opening day loss but have since taken four points from their next two
  • There have been 50 goals scored in the last 14 meetings between these two clubs

Lyon v Bordeaux Betting Advice

With this being the last fixture before the first international break of the season both teams will be determined to go into that break on the back of a good result. That probably represents different things for Lyon and Bordeaux, however. Nothing less than three points to bet back on track will do for Lyon whilst a draw would be seen as a more than useful point for the visitors. Three points for the hosts would also see them go back level on points with PSG which is important psychologically, even at this stage.

Looking through recent matches between these two clubs and the most obvious trend is it’s a fixture that contains goals. The last six games have seen both teams scoring with a total of 24 goals. Stretching back further and both teams have found the net in 10 of the last 14 meetings. That run of games having returned 50. Over 3.5 goals is the selection on this occasion.
