Macclesfield Town suffered their heaviest defeat of the season last Saturday when they were soundly beaten at Fylde 6-0, so manager and players will be looking to set the record straight at the Moss Rose ground when they take on Torquay United this Saturday.
Despite that defeat, Macclesfield still sit top of the National League but their lead has been cut to three points ahead of this weekend’s action. However, Macclesfield possess a pretty strong record at home which stands at 7-5-3 19/15, as well as being unbeaten in their last six.
Recent wins over fourth placed Wrexham, Halifax Town and third placed Sutton United show they mean business on home turf, and they’ll be keen to show the rest of the league that last week’s result was just a blip.
Torquay United make the long trip up north for this clash with the west country outfit sitting rock bottom of the non-league top flight with just 20 points to their name, and find themselves 11 points from safety.
The Gulls’ predicament looks bleak, particularly having lost their last four matches on the trot with defeats to Boreham Wood, Wrexham, Eastleigh and Bromley, and with a rather weak looking away record of 2-3-10 11/31 under their belts, it looks a tall order for Torquay to get anything out of Macclesfield here.
Three defeats from their last four on the road which includes failing to score in three of these last four isn’t a good sign either, and I’m expecting Macclesfield to bounce back here.
