Mallorca Preview – Home form key to survival aspirations?
If any team should have appreciated the recent respite during the winter break, it is Real Mallorca (18th – W4 D3 L12, GF18 GA33). The club were toiling towards the end of last year and have now collected a single point from the last eighteen available to leave them languishing inside the La Liga relegation zone, on account of their inferior goal difference. They can achieve this by getting the better of Mallorca for the second occasion this season.
Los Che needed to grind out the victory when these teams met way back in September, scoring both of their goals in a 2-0 triumph via the penalty spot. Their present form is such, particularly as it contrasts so sharply with that of the opposition, that Valencia are firm favourites to complete a league double over said opponents. A 2-1 loss at Real Betis in mid-November, meanwhile, remains their only La Liga defeat for nine games (W5 D3 L1), negotiating the past five league fixtures without incurring a single loss (W3 D2).
