We’re at the halfway stage of the Swedish Allsvenskan season already, and there’s further action from the Swedish top flight on Saturday with my next pick featuring current league leaders, Malmo, taking on struggling Jonkopings at their Swedbank Stadion.
Malmo possess a six point lead at the top of the division, but a win this evening could move them nine points clear of second placed AIK who are not in action until the week after next, so Malmo have a great chance of extending their lead even further.
Malmo are unbeaten in their last five league matches which includes four wins over AIK, Jonkopings, Eskilstuna and Hacken – three of these four being away from home too! Meanwhile at home, Malmo possess a strong record of 5-1-1 16/11, and they could further strengthen this with the likes of attacking trio, Berget, Cibicki and Rosenberg (4 goals apiece).
Visitors Jonkopings make their way to Malmo with the recent 2-1 defeat at home to the league leaders probably still fresh in their minds, as they look to end a miserable eight-match sequence without a win in the Allsvenskan.
Jonkopings sit just two league places above the relegation play-off spot, but they do have a seven point cushion over Halmstad ahead of this difficult trip on Saturday. But with just one away win under their belts all season so far, Jonkopings may have to wait until next week to resume hopes of capturing further league points.
Their away record stands at 1-4-3 8/13 which includes just one clean sheet on their travels all season, which was gained at fellow strugglers, GIF Sundsvall, in a 0-0 draw.
