Malta Prediction – Can Malta halt losing streak?

Despite holding home advantage at their Ta’Qali National Stadium, this looks an extremely tall order for the hosts, Malta, to get anything out of this clash against a strong Sweden outfit who are more than likely going to need all three points and goals in this clash to further their claims for a top two finish in Group F.

Malta started their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign in bright fashion as they collected all three points with a 2-1 home win over fellow strugglers, Faroe Islands, but they’ve since slumped to 5 defeats on the trot where they’ve conceded a total of 12 goals, including a 3-0 loss away at Saturday’s opponents, Sweden.

To make matters worse, Malta have also failed to hit the back of the net in each of these last 5 defeats, and having managed just 1 win at home from their last 18 matches in all competitions (v Faroe Islands), this looks an almost impossible task ahead of them on Saturday.

In addition, history is well and truly against Malta as they’ve lost all of the previous 12 meetings against Sweden, with 10 of these 12 encounters resulting in a Sweden win and over 2.5 goals scored.

Sweden Prediction – Can Sweden hold onto 2nd place?

With all due respect, an away match at Malta wouldn’t normally have too much riding on it but Sweden may well find themselves in a ‘must-win’ situation here along with the need to post a few goals as they look to stave off the challenge from 3rd placed Romania ahead of this weekend’s action.

Romania are just 1 point behind Sweden but travel to bottom placed nation, Faroe Islands, on Saturday in the early fixture and it looks likely that they’ll grab the points there, thus placing Sweden under increased pressure to get a result in Malta.

Sweden have so far responded to the pressure placed upon them in these Euro 2020 qualifiers as they’ve suffered just 1 defeat out of their first 6 matches in Group F and together with wins against Romania 2-1, Malta 3-0 and Faroe Islands 4-0, they’ve given themselves a great chance of qualifying for next year’s European Championship.

The visitors’ one defeat so far was a 3-0 loss away at Group F leaders, Spain, but they’ve held Norway to a 1-1 draw and recorded that emphatic 4-0 win at Faroe Islands which will give them confidence of getting the job done at Malta this Saturday.

Key-Facts – Malta v Sweden

  • Malta have lost their last 5 matches on the trot in Group F
  • Sweden have lost just 1 of their 6 matches to date in Group F
  • Sweden have won all of the previous 12 meetings against Malta

Betting Tips Verdict

It looks highly likely that there’ll be only one outcome here, a Sweden win. The visitors should also be able to score the required 3 goals by themselves as well.
