Manchester City Preview – Who fills a huge De Bruyne-shaped void?

The Premier League has already been meekly surrendered to Liverpool, who are now 25 points in the clear, while a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid has to be defended in the last-sixteen of the Champions League in a weeks time. It does, therefore, beg the question as to where this rescheduled fixture, against a resurgent side now managed by Pep Guardiola’s former assistant, features on the imminent list of prioritise for Man City (2nd – W18 D3 L6) ahead of a crucial period.

However, City could certainly do with a positive response to last Sunday’s defeat in the Manchester Derby – their third loss to Man Utd in all competitions this season. Furthermore, second place is by no means assured. Particularly as this team isn’t offering the same winning consistency as in previous seasons. The 2-0 scoreline at Old Trafford a seventh loss in the league of 2019-20, which is more than in any other campaign during Guardiola’s illustrious managerial career.

One of the more astonishing statistics at Old Trafford was how Man City generated their lowest xGF figure of the season (0.76 according to Infogol). Pep will be demanding more, that is for sure, and he could well see it. His team have netted two or more goals on eleven occasions at The Etihad this season, including each of the last five, with only Man Utd and Wolves winning there so far (W9 D2 L2). If this trend is to continue, however, someone may have to step up in the possible absence of Kevin De Bruyne.

Arsenal Preview – Arteta’s transformation gathering momentum?

As results continue to improve in the league, are Arsenal (9th – W9 D13 L6) now set to end a wait of more than five years for a first victory over Man City? It still feels like a tall order. Particularly for a team which has not won away from home in their previous five attempts (D5), and on only two occasions all season (W2 D8 L3). But after Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 win at home to West Ham made it three consecutive Premier League victories, the fans are certainly daring to believe.

Even a point would have to be deemed a very positive outcome. That has to be a realistic aim at present. Their opponents could be vulnerable after losing the Manchester Derby at the weekend, whereas The Gunners boosted their own ailing confidence and self-belief following last week’s shock Europa League exit by extending their unbeaten league run last time out to eight games (W4 D4). No team in England’s top-flight is enjoying a longer run without losing.

Moreover, Mikel Arteta has instilled greater balance and resilience throughout this side, culminating in three clean sheets in four league games. The latest was, arguably, the most fortuitous of the bunch, but Arteta was quick to point out that top teams still get it done despite not always being at their best. Significant improvements are undoubtedly required. However, Arsenal are definitely on the right path and a result here would maintain hopes of a top-five finish (currently 5 points adrift of fifth-placed Man Utd).

Manchester City Vs Arsenal Betting Advice

The past five head-to-head encounters were won by Man City, with all five coming by a margin of two clear goals. Man City -1.5 in the Asian Handicap betting is 19/20 (Bet365). Arsenal, then, clearly have plenty of scope for improvement in this fixture, but have shown enough in their league games under Arteta to suggest they can at least make a better contest of this than in recent seasons. Arsenal or Draw (Double Chance) looks very big at 5/2 (Unibet).

Man City Vs Arsenal – Key Facts
