Preview: Since their promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Brighton are yet to earn a point away from home versus Manchester United. Will that change on Tuesday when Graham Potter’s in-form side visit Old Trafford with the aim of piling on the woe for their out-of-sorts hosts?

Manchester United – Rangnick’s Red Devils too unreliable?

This was supposed to be the season the club finally put up a credible challenge for the Premier League title. Five wins from their first six matches certainly gave the impression a team that finished a distant second last time, but were significantly bolstered by the summer arrivals of Rafael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, could close the gap to the top. The reality, however, has been altogether very different.

Saturday’s draw at Old Trafford against Southampton saw the gap to leaders Man City become a 23-point chasm. It marked a third successive 1-1 draw in all competitions for United, who were humbled in the FA Cup by Middlesbrough prior to leaving two points at Turf Moor against bottom side Burnley. Compounding a wretched period which has seen the Red Devils win two league games in the last six (D3 L1).

Key Stat: Since appointing Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, Manchester United have won 50% of their league matches (W5 D4 L1), conceding eight and scoring 14, but won only twice in the last six (D3 L1).

1-1 Correct Score

Brighton – Seagulls can stretch six-game unbeaten away run?

If the biggest issue with Manchester United is that you simply don’t know what sort of performance you are getting from one match to the other, the same cannot be said of a Brighton side quietly closing in on the European places. Only the top three of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City have lost fewer league games in 2021-22 than Graham Potter’s well-oiled outfit, which is now eight unbeaten (W3 D4) in the Premier League.

Victory at Vicarage Road at the weekend via a comfortable 2-0 scoreline saw the Seagulls inch closer towards European contention in ninth. Their sole loss since Christmas was to Tottenham in the FA Cup. Moreover, they are currently without defeat in six consecutive Premier League away games (W2 D4) having taken points away to Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham – three of the league’s current top four.

Key Stat: No side in the Premier League this season has lost fewer away matches so far than the one of Brighton (level with Man City), with the Seagulls unbeaten on the road since a 2-0 loss at Aston Villa on 20 November.

Manchester United Vs Brighton Betting Advice

When something appears too good to be true, it usually is. No team in the Premier League this season has drawn more games than Brighton, with nine of their twelve stalemates coming via a 1-1 scoreline. This includes all four of their draws across their current seven-match unbeaten league run. It is a scoreline which has graced Manchester United’s previous three matches in all competitions.

Manchester United Vs Brighton – Key Facts:

  • In the Premier League, Manchester United have won six of their eight meetings with Brighton who are yet to avoid defeat at Old Trafford, losing this fixture 2-1 in 2020-21.
  • However, the sides are meeting on more even terms on this occasion. Man Utd winning one of their last three home league games (D2 L1), scoring only twice, whereas Brighton are unbeaten in six away from home (W2 D4) having scored at least once in all six.
  • No team has drawn more often than Brighton this season, with nine of their twelve draws being 1-1 scorelines – the same scoreline as in Man Utd’s last three league and cup encounters.

Both the draw, then, and 1-1 correct score are going to prove very popular selections. However, it is worth noting United have won all five league and cup meetings between the sides since the Seagulls’ promotion in 2017. Brighton did score on their last three visits, though, and will be bullish about their prospects of at least avoiding defeat having done so at Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham already this season.
