Manchester United – Theatre of Dreams has new star performer?

We can expect some extraordinary viewing figures for this weekend’s Premier League highlights show, Match of the Day. That is because the much anticipated second debut of Cristiano Ronaldo, more than twelve years after making his first top-flight appearance, versus Arsenal in May 2009, isn’t going to be shown live in the UK. Much to the consternation of salivating Manchester United supporters.

CR7 arrives fresh. Quite literally, in fact, after leaving the Portugal camp early following his record-breaking antics against Ireland. Not for the first time, his goals turned a loss into a win to become the men’s all-time leading goalscorer in international football. He then went and got himself suspended. That will be viewed as a positive by his new manager, who must now decide whether to start his former team-mate from the off.

As for the team he is joining, they’ve made an encouraging start with wins over Leeds and Wolves book-ending a 1-1 draw away to Southampton. This will be their second outing at Old Trafford, after putting five past Leeds on opening weekend. Mason Greenwood’s role as striker would appear under threat although is it even wise dislodging the teenager who has netted in all three league games this season?

Newcastle United – Can Bruce lift demoralised Magpies?

Steve Bruce is accustomed to fan backlash, and the pressure that accompanies managing a club of a restless fan base. His appointment in July 2019 wasn’t widely accepted among most Geordies, not least because of his former ties with bitter neighbours Sunderland but also because he was arguably the least inspiring option available at that time. His tenure has reached another crunch point.

Speaking of points, Newcastle begun the new season by taking only one of the first nine points on offer to them. After successive two-goal margin defeats to West Ham (2-4) and Aston Villa (2-0), they then went out of the League Cup at the first hurdle, exiting on penalties to Burnley. The performance last time out in the 2-2 draw at St James’ Park with Southampton was an improvement, though.

Allan Saint-Maximin thought he had won the game for the Magpies, only for the Saints to cancel out his 91st minute effort with one of their own with virtually the last kick. A first point of the season that will have felt more like a loss to the players. They now head to Old Trafford, unbeaten in four of the last five Premier League away games but striving to avoid a fifth straight defeat at the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United Vs Newcastle United Betting Advice

Luke Ayling’s long-range strike proved a mere consolation as Manchester United demolished his Leeds teams 5-1 at Old Trafford on Matchday 1. However, the defender did ensure a sixth consecutive home league game without a Manchester United clean sheet, who have at least scored themselves in each of the last fourteen there. As such, eight of the past nine Man Utd home Premier League games saw both teams score.

Manchester United Vs Newcastle United – Key Facts:

  • It is one win in the last 36 league visits when playing away to Manchester United for Newcastle, losing each of the last four by an aggregate of 5-14.
  • The Magpies did, however, score on each of those four visits. A repeat could be on the cards then, with Man Utd conceding in each of their last six Premier League home matches.
  • The spotlight this weekend will focus on Ronaldo, but Mason Greenwood deserves more respect after netting in each of Man Utd’s first three league games of this season.

It has been an underwhelming start to the season from a Newcastle team that ended the previous campaign so strongly, winning three of their final four matches and remaining unbeaten through their last four away from home (W3 D1). This included impressive displays at Anfield and King Power Stadium, scoring two and four respectively against Liverpool and Leicester. So they’re capable of contributing here.

Betfair Bet Builder – Man Utd Win, Both Teams To Score, Bruno Fernandes To Score and Assist Anytime @ 13/2

Last season’s meetings were thoroughly entertaining, seeing both teams score in 3-1 and 4-1 wins for Man Utd. Bruno Fernandes was instrumental meanwhile, providing an assist as well as scoring in both encounters versus the Magpies last time around.
