Hoffenheim sit bottom of Group F with 3 points and have no chance of catching second placed Lyon who hold a four point cushion over them, but they could still make it to the Europa League if they beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
However, Hoffenheim’s brief history in the Champions League tells us that the German club have yet to win a match from their seven matches played overall, with four of these matches ending in defeat.
This season’s campaign have seen them draw against Shakhar Donetsk (away) as well as creditable home and away stalemates with second placed Lyon, but a result away at Manchester City looks well beyond their capabilities here.
