Manchester City Preview

Manchester City’s consistency since the turn of the year has been incredible and it has put them in a position whereby if they win their final two games, they will retain their Premier League crown – the first time they would have achieved that feat. Pep Guardiola has stated he’s even surprised with how good his team have been and considering they were competing on four fronts for much of the season, it is no mean feat. The Champions League has gone and although that setback would easily have seen them falter in the Premier League, City have found a way to continue winning games. It’s not always been their prettiest, free-flowing football but a pair of 1-0 wins against Tottenham and Burnley either side of the derby victory at Old Trafford have all been controlled enough performances with a couple of nervy moments thrown in, but that’s par for the course when there is so much at stake and the games are being ticked off. It’s Leicester at home first up and Guardiola’s men need the win to go a point clear again ahead of their final game of the season which sees them make the long journey south to face a Brighton team who know they will be playing Premier League football for another season.

Leicester City Preview

Since Brendan Rodgers came in as manager of Leicester at the end of February, the club have shown a new lease of life and the signs are positive for the future. Claude Puel had marginalised himself in the last few weeks of his tenure, alienating the senior players. Rodgers has done the opposite by making them the focus of the team, especially Jamie Vardy. Five wins in eight matches have put them in the picture for finishing seventh and qualifying for Europe but it would appear that their improvement has probably come a bit too late. Last weekend’s 3-0 win over Arsenal was a further indication of that improvement as they were simply superior to the Gunners in every department and the margin of victory never flattered them. It was the first of three games against teams in the top six whom they finish the season against which will give Rodgers further insight into where this team currently are and what is going to be required in the summer to get Leicester pestering that top six themselves, which is ultimately the aim. More immediately, a win on Monday – as unlikely as that may be – would see Leicester leapfrog Everton and return to eighth spot.

Manchester City v Leicester City Betting Advice

As if it needed any extra build-up, Monday’s game also sees Liverpool place their hopes in their former manager and the man who came as close as any other to securing the club’s maiden Premier League title before this season. Rodgers has a chance to atone for the late season collapse in 2013/14 when losing out to City on the final day of that campaign. For the hosts, it’s just about continuing what they’ve been doing all season but they know they face a big challenge against a team who deservedly beat them on Boxing Day in the reverse fixture this season.

One of the biggest strengths of City in recent weeks is the number of clean sheets they have had with nine shutouts in their last 11 matches. Leicester are dangerous though and have a lot of players capable of troubling this City defence. They usually always score against this opponent too, finding the net in 12 of their last 15 games against the current champions. City’s quality is likely to tell but this is set up to be an open game and once which both teams can find the net, with City taking the spoils in the end.
