City should be too powerful for high-flying Wolves

FA Cup & League Cup Tips

Tuesday 24th October 2017 Kickoff: 2000hrs Manchester City v Wolves Football – England – League Cup There’s an intriguing game in prospect at the Etihad on Tuesday evening as top of the Premier League faces off against the Championship league leaders in the League Cup. Both Manchester City and Wolves have enjoyed excellent starts to their respective campaigns and will be looking to continue that good form and attempt to book a place in the quarter finals of this competition. It’s likely the two coaches will take the opportunity to make some changes but an entertaining game awaits.

The biggest surprise about Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Burnley at the weekend was the fact they had to wait until the last 15 minutes of the game to wrap the points up. Their visitors provided some resistance where most others have failed but it was still a very impressive performance from Pep Guardiola’s men to extend their lead at the top of the table. Whilst this competition will be way down their list of priorities for this season, it still represents a trophy and having not won anything since they triumphed in this competition back in 2016, it would be folly not to try and win it. Due to their European commitments, City have only had to play one game to reach this stage and it was a tricky one as they had to overcome a stubborn West Brom team at the Hawthorns. With so much football coming up the fact they have a home tie in this round will have been pleasing for Guardiola as he tries to use his squad to ensure they remain on track both domestically and in Europe.

Having been taken over by new owners last season there was an air of anticipation surrounding Wolves with many expecting them to challenge for automatic promotion straightaway. A number of new signings were brought in but the promotion challenge never materialised, despite changing managers on a couple of occasions. Some fans were growing cynical of the owner’s intentions but those fears have been completely dispelled this season as Wanderers have laid down a marker for all other clubs in the Championship from the off this time around. Saturday’s win over Preston was their third straight win in the league and ensured they stayed a couple of points clear at the top of the table. Promotion to the top flight will undoubtedly be their main priority this season but the cup will act as a nice distraction as well. Wolves have already knocked out Premier League opposition in the shape of Southampton but found matters more difficult in the last round when requiring extra time to see of lower league Bristol Rovers, can they spring the ultimate shock on Tuesday?

Manchester City v Wolves Betting Tip

Considering how impressive these two have been in their respective leagues already this season, you would be a brave man to back against them finishing anywhere else than the positions they currently occupy, despite there being so much football left to play. It may be that a number of squad players are given an opportunity in this one but it should not detract from the style of play we have been come used to from both managers. City have been relentless at home all season and it would be a monumental effort for Wolves to even get this one to extra time. Unfortunately for the visitors I expect this to be another comprehensive home win for Guardiola’s men and expect them to do so without conceding a goal.
