Manchester City Prediction – Can Man City take derby spoils?

Despite losing 3-1 away at Liverpool a couple of weeks ago, Manchester City have since bounced back with wins against Chelsea 2-1 at home and a 4-1 victory away at Burnley with a point in between times in a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United.

Manchester City now sit in 3rd place and 3 points behind 2nd placed Leicester City though, so this upcoming local derby clash against their neighbours United will take on an even greater significance as City look to chase down Premier League leaders Liverpool, while United will be aiming to replace Wolves in 5th place.

City have lost just 1 of their last 7 matches which was that pivotal loss to Liverpool, but although they suffered to defeat to Wolves, Pep Guardiola’s side have won 5 of their last 6 matches at their Etihad Stadium.

However, despite holding a fairly impressive home record of 5-1-1 21/6, only 3 of City’s 7 home games have seen the hosts win by a 3+ goal margin so far this season, and with this being a local derby and not winning by 3 goals or more in their last 5 meetings at home against United, the hosts look hard-pressed to win by a huge margin here.

Manchester United Prediction – Can Man United restore some pride?

Having recently recorded wins against Brighton 3-1 and Tottenham 2-1 both at Old Trafford along with picking up points in draws with Sheffield United and Aston Villa, Manchester United will be in confident mood as they make the short trip to face the ‘noisy neighbours’ in this Manchester derby on Saturday evening.

The importance of the recent 2-1 win against Tottenham shouldn’t be underestimated either as United ensured former manager, Jose Mourinho, left his old stomping ground of Old Trafford with egg on his face, and they’d no doubt love to do the same to Pep Guardiola on Saturday.

United have also lost just 1 of their last 7 matches overall in the top flight which was a disappointing 1-0 defeat on the south coast to Bournemouth, but they’ll be keen to improve an away record that currently stands at 1-3-3 8/10 in this clash.

Admittedly, it’s a poor record by United’s standards but the public have undervalued United here I feel as the visitors haven’t lost by 3 goals or more in any of their 7 away matches this season, and just once in their last 59 matches on the road (4-0 at Everton back in April).

Key-Facts – Manchester City vs Manchester United

  • Manchester City have lost just 1 of their last 7 matches overall in the EPL
  • Man United have lost by 3+goals away in just 1 of their last 59 matches in EPL
  • Man City have not beaten United by 3+ goals in the last 5 meetings at home

Betting Tips Verdict

City may well win this but United can be trusted to at least keep the scores close.
