May be a slow start to Premier League season on Friday

Premier League Tips

Friday 10th August 2000hrs Manchester United v Leicester City Football – England – Premier League  The Premier League is back this weekend and it all begins again at Old Trafford – the home of the most successful club in the league’s history. It’s been a frustrating summer for Jose Mourinho and he has cut an openly frustrated figure in the build up to this one with the lack of transfer activity. Ironically, his team will be up against one of his main targets who enjoyed a terrific summer at the World Cup. It’s a clash between two former champions and match preview and betting tip for Manchester United against Leicester can be read below.

Having finished second behind rivals Manchester City last year, there was agreement amongst the support that although it wasn’t good enough, it would provide a platform for them to kick on this year and attempt to win their first title since 2013. Heading into the first game of the new campaign and a day after the transfer window slammed shut, that optimism seems to have been sucked from them. Only two summer signings and seemingly a rift between Mourinho and the club’s owners and board have not been the ideal preparation. United still possess an excellent group of players that although may be unbalanced and in need of a couple of reinforcements, should have the ability to perform well and enjoy a productive season. The issue is how much will the off the field issues play their part and have a negative effect on results.

Leicester City were probably expecting a relatively quiet summer on the transfer front once their star player Riyad Mahrez made his move to the champions in the early part of it. It turned out to be anything but as sterling performances at the World Cup ensured there was huge amount of speculation on the future of Harry Maguire. Manchester United and Mourinho coveted him for the past month and were willing to play a world record fee for a defender to try and secure his services. Several bids were tabled but agreement could not be reached and he will remain a Fox for a while longer. His inclusion on Friday would certainly be interesting but Leicester will be more concerned about getting their season off to a good start. They will hope James Maddison’s arrival can compensate somewhat for losing Mahrez and with Jamie Vardy having committed his future to the club they have been able to keep hold of their other main man in attack.

Manchester United v Leicester City Betting Tip

Football fans are a fickle bunch and a handsome win for Manchester United on Friday would probably see a whole load of faith restored in Mourinho and his methods amongst the Old Trafford faithful. One thing that tends to be constant with the Portuguese coach is his teams have excellent home records and United were very good last term with 15 wins from their 19 home matches. For them to get closer to City they’ll have to do much better on their travels but a similar record at Old Trafford will be expected. Leicester and Claude Puel are also under the spotlight having disappointed last season. They have strengthened the defence in the final days of the window and Puel will see this game as an opportunity to try and further frustrated the home support.

Everybody is excited at the return of the Premier League but I have a feeling this may not be the most entertaining of games. Neither side were prolific scorers last season, relatively speaking, and it could be more of the same on Friday. United may well just sneak by in the send but side with a low scoring game to open the curtains of the new season.
