Manchester United Preview – Red Devils to cruise into last eight

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United have more than one foot in the last eight of this season’s Europa League after a stunning 5-0 victory at the Linz Stadion in Linz back in mid-March.

Before the season was temporarily halted, United ended with a bang, with Odion Ighalo, Dan James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira netting in the 5-0 rout in Austria.

Having already booked their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, the Europa League is somewhat of a free hit for the Red Devils. After a gruelling and unforgettable Premier League campaign, Ole’s boys finished in third spot, securing one of the Champions League places in the process.

Overall, Man Utd picked up 18 wins from 38 league matches, with only Liverpool and Manchester City suffering fewer defeats. Since January, the Red Devils have lost just once in all competitions.

Having eased out of their group, Solskjaer’s side beat Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the Round of 32. The Red Devils have looked strong in this competition up until now, and the Premier League outfit will surely cruise into the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

LASK Preview – Damage limitation for the Austrian outfit?

LASK are not the most popular of names on the European stage, but everyone stood up and took notice when they beat the likes of Sporting Lisbon and PSV Eindhoven to top spot in Europa League Group D last year. The Austrian Bundesliga side won four, drew one and lost one of their six group fixtures.

LASK then caused another upset in the last 32, seeing off Dutch side AZ Alkmaar. After a 1-1 draw in Holland, a Marko Raguz brace gave the Black-Whites a memorable 2-0 home victory.

Despite plenty of optimism going into the first leg with English giants Manchester United, LASK were poor on the night, losing out by a big 5-0 scoreline. Barring a miracle, their unforgettable European journey will come to an end at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
