It’s a recovery mission for Manchester United this weekend following their humbling home defeat in the derby in midweek. Bottom of the table Norwich will be looking to upset their hosts in their desperate bid for survival.

Manchester United Preview – Can United bounce back from derby loss and stay in touch with the top four?

In a season where there has been a lot of disappointments, Wednesday’s defeat against rivals Manchester City was yet another for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 3-1 loss means United are very much up against it as they look to make the final of the EFL Cup.

It also means the Red Devils have failed to win any of their previous three games coming into this match and scored only once in those matches. Wolves come to Old Trafford on Wednesday in the FA Cup third round replay and that game has taken any even more significance in relation to their season.

For all their troubles this season United are only five points behind Chelsea in the race for top four. If they can somehow find a bit of consistency that looks a realistic objective. The defeat to City in midweek was also their first home loss since August and they will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Marcus Rashford continues to have a tremendous season, personally. His consolation goal in the EFL Cup takes his tally to 17 in all competitions and has been a shining light for his team.

Norwich City Preview – Are Norwich set to heap more misery on opponents as they try to make an unlikely bid for survival?

We may only be in January but the situation is already looking very bleak for Norwich City as they look to remain in the top-flight for more than one season. The Canaries sit bottom of the table and are now seven points from safety. As has been the case for much of the season, Norwich have dropped points from winning positions over the Christmas period.

Home draws against against Crystal Place and Tottenham are not terrible results but having taken the lead in both matches Daniel Farke would have been frustrated at not taking more from them. Even winning one of those matches would have been an improvement on their current position.

The bad news does not stop only at the results at the moment for Norwich. Their top scorer, Teemu Pukki, is likely to miss this game because of injury. The Finnish internationalist has nine of Norwich’s 22 league goals this season which indicates how important he is to them.

Adam Idah made his Premier League debut against Palace because of that injury and he could be set for his first start on Saturday. Idah scored his first senior goals when netting a hat-trick in his team’s win against Preston North End in the FA Cup last weekend.

Manchester United vs Norwich City Betting Advice

This game has importance at both ends of the table. United are looking to stay in touch with Chelsea in fourth and if possible, narrow the gap. Norwich, on the other hand, are in desperate need of points as they look to move closer to the teams above them. United had the bragging rights when the sides last met, running out 3-1 winners in a game memorable for the number of penalties in it.

Key Facts – Manchester United vs Norwich City Betting Tip

  • Manchester United suffered their first home defeat since August when losing in midweek
  • Norwich have won only one of their 10 away games in the league
  • United won 3-1 when the sides met at Carrow Road earlier in the season

United have been relatively strong at home this season whilst Norwich have only won once on their travels. However, selecting a betting tip means looking for value and this could be a harder test for the home team. Norwich’s style of play means they create chances and they have scored in three of their last four away matches. United have conceded in eight of their 10 home games making both teams to score the betting tip for this game.
