The original tie between Manchester United and Wolves was largely uneventful but there has to be a winner in this reply. The team who progresses will face either Watford or Tranmere in the next round.

Manchester United Preview – Are United set to get their revenge over their FA Cup conquerors of last year?

A week on from their humiliation at home to Manchester City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, Manchester United have the chance to progress in the other domestic cup competition. Their hopes of reaching the final of what was the League Cup are hanging by a thread and the last thing that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs at the moment is to wave goodbye to another chance of a trophy.

United did manage to get back to winning ways following a poor run of games when defeating Norwich 4-0 at the weekend. It was arguably their best home performance this season with Marcus Rashford once again starring.

Solskjaer still waits for his first trophy as United boss and whilst this would only be a passage through to the fourth round it would mean a tie against a Watford team who are battling to stay in the Premier League or League One Tranmere who are always involved in a relegation battle.

The fact United were able to negotiate a very difficult away tie the first time around means they will want to make that worthwhile by finishing the job in front of their own supporters.

Wolves Preview – Will history repeat itself for Wolves as they look to eliminate Ole’s Red Devils again?

Wolves are enjoying another productive season as their development continues but they have not won since beating the other half of Manchester in the Premier League at the end of 2019. That looked to set them up perfectly to begin 2020 challenging for the top four, which has not been the case. Defeats to Liverpool and Watford, as well as only drawing at home to Newcastle, means they are eight points behind Chelsea and likely now looking to the FA Cup and Europa League as their priorities.

Silverware and Champions League football is ultimately the long-term aim of these ambitious owners and they still have reasonable opportunities to achieve both of those this season.

It may only be four games without a win and three defeats during that time, but there will be some concerns around Molineux that their participation in the Europa League (and from such an early stage) may catch up with them at some point. It’s so often the case for teams who are not regular competitors in European football.

Nuno Espirito Santo has made it clear he wants to strengthen his squad during this transfer window, perhaps fearful of burnout in the latter parts of this season.

Manchester United vs Wolves Betting Advice

A 2-1 win at the quarter-final stage of last year’s FA Cup gave Wolves the bragging rights and a passage through to the last four which almost resulted in a first FA Cup final appearance since 1960. Manchester United have already done better by taking this tie to a replay and will be hopeful that they can add to their considerable success in this competition, winning it most recently in 2016.

Key Facts – Manchester United vs Wolves Betting Tip

  • United got a confidence-boosting win at home to Norwich at the weekend and will be hoping to follow up here
  • Wolves got the better of United in last year’s FA Cup en route to the semi-final
  • The winner of this game will go on to face either Tranmere or Watford in the next round

There was absolutely nothing in the first games between these teams 10 days ago in a match that neither really done enough to win. Both were missing key players in attack and it showed. The fact this game needs to be played to an end may see a more adventurous approach but there has been little between these two clubs in general in recent times.

There’s three points between them in the league and three of the last five clashes have been draws. The betting tip at Old Trafford is a draw in what is likely going to be another tense encounter.
