It’s a big game in League Two in the battle for promotion. One of Mansfield or Exeter could find themselves in the automatic promotion place come full-time as we approach the business end of the season.

Mansfield Preview – Can Mansfield make it a 10th straight league win in a row at home?

If Mansfield are to realise their ambition of playing in League One next season then it will be in large part to their excellent home form. Nigel Clough (who has been at the club for just under 18 months now) prepares his team for what will be their 18th home league game of the season and they are looking for a 12th win in that time. Their dominance at the One Call Stadium has been getting stronger the longer the season has went on, too.

Clough’s men are hunting for a 10th straight win at home – a run which dates back to the end of October. Their last defeat here in the league was on the second day of that month emphasising just how consistent they have been.

Mansfield are currently in seventh place so occupying the last of the playoff spots as it stands. However, in what is a ridiculously congested race for the top seven and automatic promotion spots, a win here would lift them into third place on goal difference. They also have the advantage of having played fewer matches than all but one of the teams ahead of them.
Goals have been the order of the day in this excellent run at home with Mansfield scoring at least two goals in eight of the nine wins, accumulating 20 goals in the process.

Exeter City Preview – Will Exeter continue their strong run away from home and move into second spot with a win?

Chasing promotion is not a new experience for Exeter City and their supporters. They have lost in the playoff final in three of the last five seasons and failing to get over that final hurdle on each occasion. Matt Taylor – who has been in charge for one of those heartaches will be hoping to avoid similar misery this time around by finishing in the top three and going up automatically.

They sit in fourth place heading into this one and could jump into second place with a win here. Like their opponents, Exeter also have valuable games in hand over their promotion rivals but know how crucial a win here could be.

Playing on their travels won’t bother them all that much, either, considering Exeter have lost only three away matches in League Two so far this season. Nobody has lost fewer and Exeter are unbeaten in their last nine home and away.

Matt Jay finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 18 in the league and although on 10 for this campaign he has failed to score in his last 15 league games. His last goal came back the 13th of November so he will be desperate to get back to form.

Mansfield vs Exeter City Betting Advice

Whatever happens in this one it won’t decide anything in the context of the League Two promotion battle. Forest Green Rovers look to have all but sealed the title with a 10 point lead at the top but there are only seven points between second and 10th place.

Both teams also have that advantage of having played fewer games and in very good form heading into this match. Exeter have had the advantage in recent meetings between the two, winning four of the last six including the home game earlier in the campaign.

Key Facts –  Mansfield vs Exeter City Betting Tip

  • Only Tranmere have won more home games than Mansfield in League Two this season
  • No team has lost fewer away matches than Exeter (three defeats in 16 matches)
  • Exeter won the meeting between the teams earlier this season and have now won four of the last six

With it being so tight and very little to choose between the teams I’m backing a draw in this match. No team in the top half has drawn as many as Exeter (12) and this looks like being another share of the points.
