Second bottom Melbourne Victory will be looking forward to the end of this season but they host a Brisbane Roar team who are looking to confirm their place in the end of season playoffs.

Melbourne Victory Preview – After three straight defeats can Melbourne find an elusive victory?

It’s been a very disappointing campaign for Melbourne Victory and recent developments suggest it could well be a sign of what’s to come. Since Kevin Muscat left the club last summer – ending a six year spell in charge – Victory are on their third manager and have waved goodbye to a number of top players. Grant Brebner is currently in interim charge but there is a big job ahead for whoever gets the job on a permanent basis.

Their current position of 10th is a far cry from the two first place finishes achieved under Muscat and the Premiership they lifted back in 2015. Even last year they were third in the regular season.

Their first game back after the break was a 2-1 defeat at home to Western United and with four games left they are attempting to end a run of three straight losses. With Central Coast Mariners to come – the only team below them in the table – Brebner will be hoping that he can pick up at least one victory in their remaining games.

Ola Toivonen to Malmo is the headline departure and has left Victory short up front. The Swedish striker has scored 10 of their 25 goals in the A-League this season.

Brisbane Roar Preview – Are Brisbane set to bounce back from disappointing defeat last time?

There’s still work to do for Brisbane Roar and their attempts to clinch a playoff spot. A 1-0 loss at home to Adelaide last time out means that they are five points clear of seventh placed Western United. On the face of it that appears to be a comfortable enough cushion but that rival has played two games fewer and Roar have a challenging run-in aheaf of them. After this game they face the top two so there is enough guaranteed.

It’s something of a baptism of fire for Warren Moon who only took charge of the first team earlier this month following Robbie Fowler electing not to return to the club.

Despite being fourth at the moment Brisbane have found goals hard to come by – scoring just 25 in their 23 league games. That’s the same amount as their struggling opponents and only the bottom-placed Mariners have scored fewer so far. It was one of the reasons veteran Scott McDonald was acquired midway through the season and he’s joint top scorer on four.

Away from home has been Brisbane’s biggest struggle winning just three of their 11 so far and scoring a league low of eight goals. All three of those victories have come in their last five games, however.

Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Betting Advice

Although Melbourne have been well below the standard we’ve come to expect from them this season, they are looking to do the double over Brisbane in this campaign. It’s an opponent they have enjoyed facing recently winning all four of their previous meetings. Roar’s last win in this fixture was back in February 2018.

Key Facts – Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Betting Tip

  • Having finished third last season, Victory have struggled throughout this campaign a 10th place finish is likely
  • The Roar still have work to do to confirm their playoff spot following a home defeat to Adelaide
  • Victory have won the last four meetings against the Roar including the meeting earlier this season

It’s a game where goals may well be at a premium considering it pitches the joint-lowest home scorers against the team who have scored fewest on their travels. Seven of the Roar’s last eight games have went under 2.5 goals and the earlier meeting this season also finished 1-0. I’m predicting another low-scoring affair on Wednesday.
