It’s been a pretty dire start to the season for both Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory so the two clubs will be desperate for points and looking at Friday’s game as a springboard to to some improved fortunes.

Melbourne Victory Preview – Can Victory pick up what would be just their second win of the season and first at home?

There’s no getting away from how disappointing  a start to the season it’s been for Melbourne Victory. They sit second bottom of the A League after seven games, accumulating only five points. It could be even worse for the club as they have played one game more than Wellington Phoenix who are only a point behind them. To make matters worse, the Victory supporters are having to endure this start whilst their biggest rivals – Melbourne City – are setting the pace at the top of the league. The two clubs faced each other on the opening weekend of the season in a game which ended in a goalless draw. That’s only one of three games which Victory have picked up points in so far.

Marco Kurz is in his first season in charge of Melbourne Victory and is already under pressure due to this dire start. His only win as boss so far was away to Brisbane Roar whilst the other game his team have accrued points is at home to Wellington. Friday’s game appears to be an important one even this early in the campaign.

Perth Glory Preview – Will Perth continue their unbeaten start away from home this season and begin climbing the table?

It was agony for Tony Popovic and his Perth Glory team last season. The former Australian internationalist led Glory to the Grand Final in what was his first season in charge of the club. They were beaten on penalties following a goalless draw and it looks as though they are suffering something of a hangover from that defeat. Popovic takes his team to Melbourne on Friday just one point ahead of their opponents with a record of one win, three draws and two defeats so far. Interestingly, both defeats have come at home to Central Coast Mariners and their conquerors in last season’s final, Sydney. It’s been much better on their travels where they remain unbeaten having taken five points from a possible nine.

Popovic will be looking for his team to continue what has been an impressive start on their travels and looking to take advantage of a struggling Melbourne Victory. He certainly has the winning formula in this fixture having won on their last two visits by a score line of 2-1.

Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory Betting Advice

Considering these two teams finished in the top three last season there’s no getting away from how disappointing their respective starts have been this time around. Perth Glory were the best team by far in the regular season last term and have to find a way of recapturing that level of form to start climbing the table. The same applies for their hosts on Friday but they appear to be in more of a transition now under the management of Marco Kurz who is yet to find a style and approach which fits this group of players.

It’s just one defeat in 18 away league games for Perth Glory, winning 10 of those. With the struggles that Melbourne are going through at the moment it looks a great chance for the visitors to continue that unbeaten run. It’s hard to have a great deal of confidence in a side that have won only once of their first six games so the suggestion is Perth Glory with draw no bet, that away stakes are returned if the game ends in a draw.
