Michael Smith continues to make strong waves in the Premier League darts 2020 after taking a win over Michael van Gerwen last week. Next on his list is reigning World Champion Peter Wright who has produced some inconsistent form so far in the campaign.

Smith rising to the occasion
In what is his fourth season in the Premier League darts, Michael Smith is heading into the sixth round of action sitting in second place in the table. Part of the reason for this is because he produced a 7-4 win over Michael van Gerwen last week.
That was the third straight win for Smith in this season’s Premier League and his fourth undefeated. So he has really got it together. This week’s action on Merseyside is in his neck of the woods (born in St Helens) so he should be extra fired up.
The former under-21 World Champion was a faller in the round of 32 at the UK Open over the weekend, falling in a narrow loss against Rob Cross. But it was a consistent run and that is something that he has managed well this season after reaching the final of this year’s Masters too.

Can Wright build on success?
Wright has won none of the four previous Premier League Darts matches against Smith (D2 L2). The last two have been drawn and Snakebite might be happy with that on the night against an in-form player.
Last week Wright bagged himself the second win of the season and it was a strong 7-3 success over Nathan Aspinall as well. That was easily the best we have seen Wright play in this campaign, looking relaxed and he finished with a massive three-dart average of 110 on the night.
That fantastic night of scoring boosted his three dart average up to 96 in the campaign, which is average more than spectacular. He has however, scored the joint-highest number of 180’s in this season’s league, 17 of them alongside Gary Anderson.

The overall concern will be a lack of consistency there from the Scot in this season’s Premier League as he goes in search of back to back match wins for the first time. That return to form last week was fantastic but it remains to be seen if he can get that elusive Premier League win against Smith.
