Middlesbrough’s recent five-match unbeaten run came to an end on Tuesday night when they were dealt a 2-1 defeat away at Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, but they have another chance to bounce back quickly on Friday night when they host Wolves at the Riverside Stadium.

Boro had previously recorded back-to-back wins over Cardiff City and Fulham, but the defeat to Blackburn should see them focus more keenly on this encounter with all three points lifting them on top of the Championship if they win this evening.

The motivation is certainly there for the hosts who have been pretty steady all season on home turf with an overall record of  11-3-2  24/5 with their defence being the key stand-out with no fewer than 11 clean sheets to dare so far this season on home turf.

Visitors Wolves have once again flattered to deceive this season as the midlands outfit currently kicking around in a disappointing mid-table position following another season of inconsistency. Wolves unexpectedly ended a run of six Championship matches without a win on the weekend when they beat Derby County 2-1 at home, but they face a tough trip to Middlesbrough on Friday night.

Wolves are without a win from their last four away trips as they’ve drawn with QPR and Reading, but also suffered defeats at Huddersfield Town and Brentford, while their away record is of course an inconsistent  6-4-7  20/23.

Wolves have also failed to score in their last three away matches which could be their undoing once again at the Riverside Stadium on Friday night.
