Middlesbrough Prediction – Can Middlesbrough kick-start their season?

Another manager fearing for his job is Middlesbrough manager, Jonathan Woodgate, as his side’s winless run in the Championship was extended to 9 matches last time out at Loftus Road despite a solid point in a 2-2 draw with QPR.

Nevertheless, Woodgate may well be regretting his act of bravado prior to the new Championship campaign following his appointment from former Middlesbrough manager, Tony Pulis, as Woodgate publicly proclaimed a return of an attacking brand of football under his regime, but in reality, this has been far from the case – the exact opposite in fact.

Middlesbrough have scored the joint fewest number of goals (13) in total with Wigan Athletic to date this term, while managing to score a measly 5 goals at their Riverside Stadium within a poor home record of 2-3-3 5/8 so far this season.

Narrow 1-0 wins over fellow strugglers, Wigan Athletic and Reading respectively, have been outweighed by defeats to Brentford, Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom and the natives are getting restless.

Hull City Prediction – Can Hull extend Boro’s woes?

The visitors’ 3-match winning streak in the Championship came to an abrupt end last time out in the Championship when they lost 1-0 at home to league leaders, West Brom, just before the international break, but The Tigers will fancy their chances of bouncing back with a result on Teeside this Sunday at Middlesbrough.

Before the loss to The Baggies, Hull had previously strung together impressive wins over Nottingham Forest and Fulham (both away from home) and a 2-0 home win against Derby County as Grant McCann’s side have slowly but steadily been climbing up the Championship table.

The Tigers now occupy a mid-table position of 12th place but are just 6 points adrift of the play-off pack and despite being on the road this Sunday, this might actually suit Hull’s counter-attacking style as the onus will be on Middlesbrough to go on the front foot at home here.

Hull’s away record stands at 3-2-2 11/8 which at first glance doesn’t seem that special, but the visitors have won 3 of their last 4 matches away from home with wins at Luton Town, 6th placed Nottingham Forest and 4th placed Fulham, so they must be respected here.

Key-Facts – Middlesbrough vs Hull City

  • Middlesbrough have now gone 9 matches without a win in the Championship
  • Middlesbrough have scored the joint fewest goals in this season’s Championship
  • Hull City have won 3 of their last 4 matches away from home in the Ch’ship

Betting Tips Verdict

Middlesbrough and Jonathan Woodgate are walking a fine line and confidence is flagging, while Hull are on the up and possess more dangerous personnel in the shape of Bowen, Grosicki and Eaves.
