Milan Preview – Can Milan get another vital win to maintain their lead over arch rivals Inter at the top of Serie A?

Milan were the last time not called Juventus to win Serie A  and they will be hoping they are the first to follow nine years of Juve domination. Few would have predicted them to be top of the table approach the halfway stage of the league campaign but Stefano Pioli is doing an astounding job. Milan are three points clear of rivals Inter heading into this weekend’s fixtures following their 2-0 win away to Cagliari on Monday.

The evergreen Zlatan Ibrahimovic also goes from strength to strength scoring both goals in the victory to take his tally to 12 goals in the league despite having played just eight matches.

Their only defeat to date was against the current champions last month and that’s one of four home matches where they have failed to pick up victory. It’s not a terrible record but in contrast to their excellent away form (eight wins and a draw) there is definitely some room for improvement. And it’s against the top sides they have to start winning.
Milan’s owners clearly sense they have an opportunity for a first league title in a decade with high-profile signings in attack and defence already this window and that will only grow if they can take three points here.

Atalanta Preview – Will Atalanta improve their top four chances with what would be just a second away win in six games?

Similar to last season Atalanta appear to be finding consistency on the back of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages. Due to their resources and size of the playing squad, being able to juggle domestic and European commitments at the level they are playing at is never going to be easy. There’s no doubt results in the league suffered towards the back end of last season, particularly with the programme being so condensed.

They come into tomorrow’s game unbeaten in their last 12 games – a run which has seen them move into sixth spot in Serie A and just one point off fourth placed Roma.

Whilst the most optimistic supporters would have been hoping for a title challenge it was always more realistic that a top four finish would be the aim again and anything from there is a bonus. That said, a win for them here would see them only seven points behind their opponents.

The one frustration for Gian Piero Gasperini is the lack of wins on the road of late. The 4-1 win at Benevento earlier this month is their only away success in their last five – drawing the other four.

Milan vs Atalanta Betting Advice

The pressure is only going to get more intense for Milan as they look to maintain their lead at the top and particularly so against the best teams Serie A has to offer. And Atalanta are certainly one of those – so much so that they are favourites to win at the San Siro.

Whatever the result it is almost certainly going to be a a tight encounter as it has been between these teams. There has been a winner in just two of the last seven meetings.

Key Facts – Milan vs Atalanta Betting Tip

  • Milan’s only defeat of the season so far came at home to champions Juventus last month
  • Atalanta’s last defeat was at the end of November – seven wins and five draws since
  • Five of the last seven meetings between these two teams have ended in draws

There is a sense that Milan are more vulnerable at home and Atalanta are in a rich vein of form. With some key players missing for the hosts, the away team will see this as an opportunity to improve their away form and record a win which could spark a title challenger of their own.
