Two clubs with play-off dreams go head-to-head as the EFL Championship makes a return this Saturday, with Gary Rowett’s Millwall welcoming Phillip Cocu’s Derby County to The Den. The Lions are just two points off the top six in eighth, while the Rams are three points behind Millwall. This promises to be an intriguing Championship fixture in London.

Millwall Preview – Can the Lions roar to victory this Saturday?

Since Gary Rowett took over at The Den, Millwall have been supremely competitive in the Championship. The Lions have been hunting down a play-off spot all season, and the London club get their campaign back up and running sitting just two points off sixth.

After back-to-back draws with Birmingham City and Bristol City, Millwall picked up a stunning win at Nottingham Forest in their last outing. It was one of the performances of the season in the Championship, with Matt Smith’s first-half hat-trick giving the Lions a memorable 3-0 victory at the City Ground.

Only Queens Park Rangers, Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion have left The Den with all three points this season, but the Lions are without a home win in five in the league and cup. However, each of their previous three league fixtures on their own patch have ended in draws. As Millwall push for a play-off place, three points at The Den on Saturday could be crucial in their quest for Premier League football.

Derby County Preview – Can the Rams make it three wins in a row?

After a poor first-half to the season, Phillip Cocu’s Derby County have slowly but surely turned things around. The Rams have spent practically all season in the bottom half, but seven wins from their last 13 has taken them into the top half of the table. Derby are now only five points off the top six.

County signed off for three months with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Blackburn Rovers in March. Chris Martin netted twice after Louie Sibley had given them the lead. Before that, Cocu’s side won 3-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. In 2020, only Luton Town, Bristol City and QPR have beaten Derby.

Derby are more than capable of making a late dash for the play-offs. With nine matches left to play, there are plenty of points up for grabs. The Midlands outfit will send a real signal intent to their rivals with a win at The Den at the weekend.

Millwall vs Derby County Betting Advice

Tom Bradshaw scored the only goal of the game when Derby and Millwall clashed at Pride Park back in mid-December. The Lions also did the double over the Rams in the Championship last season, following up a 2-1 home win with a 1-0 victory at Derby.

Key Facts – Millwall vs Derby County Betting Tip

  • Millwall have won the last three meetings between the two clubs
  • The Lions have been beaten just three times at The Den in this season’s Championship
  • Derby have lost ten of their 18 away league matches so far

Millwall are a tough nut to crack under Rowett, and the former Derby boss will want to get one over on his former club on Saturday. I’m backing the home side to edge a tight fixture in the English capital – the home win is priced at 5/4.
