Millwall Preview – Can the Lions roar to victory on home turf?

Millwall had a fine season under Gary Rowett last term, with the former Stoke City boss guiding the Lions to eighth spot in the Championship table. Rowett made an instant impact after taking over from club legend Neil Harris, who moved to Cardiff City.

Millwall just came up short in the end in the race for the top six. The Londoners won 17, drew 17 and lost 12, ending up in eighth position with 68 points to their name. The Lions were just two points behind Swansea City, who took the final play-off spot on the last day.

Millwall’s season got off to a winning start last weekend, as the Lions cruised to a 3-1 EFL Cup victory over Crawley Town. Efforts from Scott Malone and Matt Smith and an own goal gave Millwall the comfortable cup victory. Can the London outfit follow that up with a win in the league this Saturday?

Stoke City Preview – Potters to battle to a draw in the capital?

Stoke have had a miserable couple of years in the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League. However, former Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill guided the Potters to safety last term.

Stoke finished in 15th, picking up a mere 56 points along the way. They won 16 games, drew eight times and suffered a staggering 22 defeats. Only Luton Town and Hull City (who finished bottom) suffered more losses in last season’s Championship.

After surviving last term, Stoke are fancied to do well under O’Neill this season, with the bookies pricing them at just 13/8 to finish in the top six. Last weekend, City started their 2020-21 season with a win over Blackpool in the EFL Cup. The Tangerines from EFL League One took the Potters to penalties after a 0-0 draw, with Stoke prevailing 5-4.

It will be interesting to see how far O’Neill can take this talented Stoke team this season. They could be dark horses for promotion to the Premier League.

Millwall vs Stoke City Betting Advice

Millwall picked up four points from the two Championship meetings last season. Before a 0-0 draw at the bet365 Stadium in January, goals from Ben Thompson and Jed Wallace helped the Lions to a 2-0 victory at The Den in October.

Key Facts – Millwall vs Stoke City Betting Tip

  • Millwall are unbeaten in the last three meetings (one win, two draws), shipping zero goals in the process
  • The Lions were just two points away from the play-offs last term
  • Only Charlton Athletic and Barnsley picked up fewer away points than Stoke in the 2019-20 Championship season

Two of the last three Millwall v Stoke meetings have ended in goalless draws, and we can see the pair cancelling each other out at The Den at the weekend. The draw and under 2.5 goals is nicely priced 11/4.

After netting in the cup last weekend, Millwall’s Matt Smith will be hoping to start his league campaign with a goal this Saturday. Smith is available at 21/10 to score anytime in this one.
