We would have expected to be all focused on the ATP Rotterdam event on the weekend, but along comes Kyle Edmund to excitingly disrupt things.

The Brit came through an exciting quarter-final tussle and now faces up to Next Gen star Miomir Kecmanovic in the semi-finals of the New York Open.

Can Edmund make the New York Final?

Britain’s Kyle Edmund is one of the last four men standing in the Big Apple. Edmund started the tournament as the eighth seed and he has made very steady progress. He won his first two matches at the tournament in straight sets.

With the way that the draw was set up, he would have fully expected to have met Milos Raonic, the second seed, in the final four. However, Raonic suffered a shock loss in the second round against South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon.

After dropping the first set against Kwon in the quarters, Edmund battled his way back into the match brilliantly, really using his service game well. He eventually won out 7-2 in a deciding set tie-break.

So that was a tight squeeze for Edmund, but now the 25-year-old is just two matches from what would be his second career ATP title. His last ATP final was in Antwerp 2018 (lost to Gael Monfils)

Our betting prediction:

This little run of form has come out of nowhere. Edmund lost in the first round of two of his three previous tournaments this year. Before the start of New York, he was only W2 L3 in matches during 2020. Edmund lines up as the favourite for this match in the final four, despite being ranked 12 places beneath his opponent on the ATP.

Serbian Next Gen star may shine in the Big Apple

Miomir Kecmanovic, a 20-year-old Serbian who is one of the Next Gen stars in the game, has found a nice bit of rhythm in New York. He had a good start to the new year in reaching the semi-finals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.

He did then only win one of his next three matches (including Challenger Tour), but like Edmund has gotten back into the swing of things in New York. This will be the first meeting between the two players.

Kecmanovic raced through his first two matches in New York, taking out the unseeded Tommy Paul and Paolo Lorenzi. He was then up against fourth seed Ugo Humbert in the quarter-finals and the young Serbian looked in trouble after dropping the first set.

There was a notable change-up in his game as he started getting dialled in with his serve. He was only at 58% with his first serves in the opening set.

He turned up the heat to 72% from there and dialled back some nervy unforced errors as well. That’s a 6-2 match record for the season for him now.

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Kyle Edmund Betting Advice

This is a really tough match to call. Both have had some very good moments in the Big Apple. They have both had similar journeys through to the final four as well. It is for us though, Kecmanovic who just looks the sharper of the two players and he rallied admirably in his quarter-final.

Key Facts – Miomir Kecmanovic vs Kyle Edmund Betting Tip

  • Kyle Edmund is ranked 62nd in the world
  • Miomir Kecmanovic is ranked 54th in the world
  • Both are top-eight seeds for ATP New York

Edmund never really looked clear and comfortable against Kwon in his quarter-final match and against a better player in Kecmanovic, could just come up short. The all-court play of the Serbian has been excellent so far.
