Moldova Prediction

Moldova face a mountain to climb in their opening match in Group H as they prepare for the visit of the reigning World Cup winners, France, but the hosts will be quietly confident that they might be able to keep things close here on home soil.

Moldova held their own during their League D campaign in the UEFA Nations League as they finished in third place in Group 2 but just a point behind runners-up, Luxembourg, as Moldova lost just once during the group stages.

The hosts didn’t get off to the best of starts though as they were thrashed 4-0 away at Luxembourg in their opening Group 2 match, but the Moldovans showed their resilience and bounced back with home and away wins over the group ‘whipping boys’ San Marino, as well as collecting points in draws with Belarus (0-0 in both home and away matches) and a 1-1 draw at home with Luxembourg.

However, it was a case of ‘horses for courses’ for Moldova who are in League D for a reason, and they’ll do well to keep the score to a respectable result against France here I fancy.

With just one win from their last 19 home matches in all competitions, Moldova look to have their work cut out here.

Key-Facts – Moldova v France

  • Moldova have won just 1 of their last 19 matches at home in all competitions
  • France have lost just 2 of their last 10 away matches
  • These two teams have never met before

France Prediction

Newly crowned World Cup winners France finished slightly disappointing runners-up behind the Netherlands in the subsequent UEFA Nations League Group 1 in League A as they were pipped at the post on goal difference by the Dutch who won the group and now face England in the semi-finals.

Nevertheless, France at least finished in 2nd place which meant that they didn’t suffer the ignominy of relegation unlike Germany who suffered a second humiliation in a major tournament on the trot as they finished bottom of the group which sees the former World Cup winners relegated down to League B.

France finished with a 100% winning record on home soil as they despatched both Netherlands and Germany by 2-1 scorelines, and although they took a point off Germany in their opening group match drawing 0-0, it was defeat to the Dutch 2-0 in the final group match which decided the winners of the group.

The French now travel to Moldova for this group opener, and with the likes of Mbappe, Thauvin, Griezmann, Fekir and Giroud in their armoury, the visitors should coast home here.

Betting Tips Verdict

France to win and keep a clean sheet looks the best bet here.
