Friday night brings us just the one fixture in the French top flight as hosts and second placed Monaco take on Ligue 1 strugglers, Lille, at their Stade Louis II ground, with the hosts going in search of all three points to pull further away from third placed Marseille.
Monaco currently possess a four point lead ahead of Marseille, but taking the spoils on Friday night would mean that Marseille would have a seven point deficit to make up with just nine matches of the season remaining. Monaco deservedly occupy the other automatic Champions League spot though having won five of their last six with wins over fourth placed Lyon, Angers, Dijon, Bordeaux and Strasbourg.
The principality have also been most impressive on home turf as they’ve collected seven wins from their last eight matches, amidst an overall home record which stands at an excellent 12-2-1 42/15, and prolific striker, Falcao (17 goals) is relishing spearheading the attack.
Lille, on the other hand, have had to endure what has been a very difficult and testing campaign as they sit second from bottom in Ligue 1 and in the relegation zone ahead of their trip to rampant Monaco on Friday night.
The visitors are without a win from their last six outings overall, which include defeats to PSG, Angers and Nice, but although they are just one point adrift of Toulouse and the safety of 17th place on the Ligue 1 ladder, getting anything from this visit to in-form Monaco will be a very tall order indded.
Throw in an away record that stands at 3-2-9 11/24, which includes just one win from their last six on the road (at 12th placed Caen), and you can see what a big task awaits them at Monaco.
