During this week there’s further action from the French Ligue 1 and Tuesday night features a top six clash between second placed Monaco and sixth placed Nice at the Stade Louis II with the hosts looking to maintain their current Champions League qualification spot.
Following back-to-back defeats to league leaders, PSG and Nantes in November, Monaco have bounced back in style as they’ve recorded four wins from their last five matches with wins over Angers, Troyes, Saint-Etienne and Rennes.
An impressive home record which stands at 8-1-1 28/9 means the home side should be in with a shout of claiming all three points here, and momentum is certainly on their side as they’ve won five of their last six on home turf. Leading goalscorer Falcao (15 goals) is their main threat up front.
Nice sit in sixth place having also put together an impressive set of results in recent times and they’re unbeaten in their last six overall in Ligue 1 with wins captured against Toulouse, Metz, Bordeaux and Amiens.
However, six of their nine wins so far this season have been registered at their Allianz Riviera, while their away record stands at an indifferent looking 3-2-4 7/13, although they’re unbeaten in their last four on the road.
Draws at Caen and Lille have been either side of wins at Toulouse and Nantes, and although these results have been an improvement upon their earlier shows on their travels, only Nantes are top half opposition from the recent four results.
In short, I believe Monaco possess greater quality in the final third and will therefore win.
