Monaco Preview – Can Monaco frustrate PSG again?
This will be the second meeting in just a matter of a few days between Wednesday night’s hosts, Monaco, and their visitors PSG following the recent 3-3 draw in Paris on Sunday, and tonight’s hosts will no doubt be seeking to frustrate PSG a second time here.
Former Spain national coach, Robert Moreno, recently took over the reigns at Monaco and the hosts have responded immediately as they’ve put together a 5-match unbeaten run which includes wins against Toulouse, Amiens and Lille as well as picking up points in draws with Angers and the aforementioned PSG result.
This improved run of form has lifted Monaco into the top half of Ligue 1 and they’ve won their last 6 matches on the trot at home amidst an overall record of 6-1-2 24/14 with wins against Brest, Rennes, Dijon, Amiens and Lille – the latter being a 5-1 thrashing.
Monaco have played second fiddle to PSG on numerous occasions in previous exchanges but perhaps we’re now seeing Monaco making a return to their former glory?
PSGPreview – Can PSG restore normal service?
A 3-3 draw at home with Wednesday night’s opponents, Monaco, was certainly an unexpected result for PSG but nevertheless, they still hold a 5-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 prior to their trip to Monaco in their second meeting in just a few days.
PSG are now unbeaten in their last 7 matches overall in the French top flight and this sustained unbeaten run has helped them keep the likes of 2nd placed Marseille at arms length as Thomas Tuchel and his players chase another domestic top flight title.
If PSG have any kind of weakness or chink in their armour it may perhaps lie in their results away from home as the perennial French champions have lost twice on the road so far this season having slipped up at Rennes and Dijon.
The only problem is that the visitors have won the other 7 that they’ve played on their travels amidst an overall record of 7-0-2 19/7, so they’ll always be hard to beat wherever they play.
