Morecambe Preview – Can Morecambe halt poor run?
Tuesday night’s hosts, Morecambe, gained a solid and encouraging point in a 1-1 draw with 9th placed Colchester United on Saturday which ended Morecambe’s 3-match losing streak but nevertheless, extended The Shrimps’ winless run in League Two to four matches without success.
Losing 3 of their last 4 matches overall certainly hasn’t done Morecambe any favours as the hosts continue to battle against possible relegation from the Football League as the home side currently occupy second from bottom in the fourth tier and now find themselves 5 points adrift of third from bottom side, Macclesfield Town and safety.
Recent losses to Oldham Athletic, Cambridge United and Bradford City have added further damage to their hopes of avoiding the drop, while their overall home record reads a fairly average looking 2-5-6 13/19.
However, Morecambe have lost just 1 of their last 5 matches on home turf at their Globe Arena and this will give them belief that they can get something out of this upcoming tussle with Port Vale.
Port ValePreview – Can Port Vale continue climb up table?
10th placed Port Vale extended their unbeaten run in League Two on the weekend to 6 matches following a 1-0 win away from home at lowly Stevenage and no doubt the visitors will be looking for more of the same when they make their way up to Lancashire to face Morecambe on Tuesday night.
A recent 2-0 home win against the league leaders, Swindon Town, should also give Port Vale plenty of confidence that they can take something from their trip to the Globe Arena, as well as picking up points in draws with Crawley Town , Cheltenham Town and Macclesfield Town.
Port Vale have also improved their fortunes away from home as well in recent weeks as The Valiants have suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 6 matches amidst an overall away record of 3-5-5 15/20.
Wins on the road at 6th placed Bradford City, 4th placed Crewe Alexandra and Stevenage prove that John Askey’s side are certainly no pushovers on their travels in the fourth tier while talisman forward Tom Pope (4 goals) looks the most likely for the visitors.
