No matter what happens at Fir Park on Saturday, Motherwell will finish above Livingston in the Scottish Premiership and there is little to play for other than both clubs looking to cap of positive seasons.

Motherwell Preview

This campaign started in ominous fashion for Motherwell and their manager Stephen Robinson as they toiled at the bottom end of the table turning in a number of abject performances. ‘Well had reached both domestic cup finals the season before so expectation was higher this time around and all concerned were looking for a good showing in the league and cup competitions. Neither were happening and when Ross County knocked Motherwell out the Scottish Cup in the fourth round in early January, there were calls for Robinson to be replaced with a more forward-thinking manager. His response to that transformed the team’s fortunes as Robinson elected to blood some younger players – a decision that probably seen him stay on in his job. Motherwell won six games in a row in the league and were threatening a top six finish. Their form has tailed off since then but there are signs of potential in this team now that didn’t exist in the first half of the season. One of the key members of the squad has been midfielder David Turnbull who has won a number of young player of the years award such has been his contribution. He’s scored 13 goals and looks set for a big future in the game. Despite signing a new contract recently, there are bound to be clubs sniffing around and he could even be on his way in the summer.

David Turnbull to score anytime

Livingston Preview

When Livingston won promotion via the playoffs last season, virtually everybody had them certainties to be relegated and return straight back down to the Championship. Losing the manager that earned them promotion and then sacking his replacement after just one game never suggested anything different, but Gary Holt’s appointment has been the turning point for the club and they’ve surprised everyone with their performances throughout the season. Other than the first weekend of the season the club have not been in the relegation zone and were even sitting in the European positions at one point. Holt knows his team will finish ninth which is a brilliant achievement for the team who have the lowest budget. Livi’s success has been built on their excellent home record and what is usually an uncompromising style. Ten of their 11 wins have come at home as Holt’s team have made it as difficult as possible for visiting teams to get any joy on what is now their infamous ‘plastic pitch’. The price of that success is that a number of players will be leaving the club at the end of the season on to bigger clubs which means a big rebuilding job for Holt.

Key-Facts – Motherwell v Livingston

  • These clubs will feel eighth and ninth respectively, and can be happy with their seasons work
  • ‘Well are on a great run at home winning seven of their last nine games, losing only once
  • Livi have performed much better at home this season and managed just one victory on their travels so far

Motherwell v Livingston Betting Advice

Although it’s been the second half of the season where Motherwell have picked up and Livingston’s best form came before Christmas, both managers, sets of players and supporters will take a lot of positives from this season and enjoy their summer break. A win on Saturday would obviously make the break a bit more sweeter but we’re bound to see a lot of changes at Motherwell and Livingston in terms of playing squad come the start of the new campaign, so there will be players on both sides desperate to end their spells with three points.

There’s four points between these two in the table suggesting there’s not much between the pair and that’s also demonstrated by the fact they have shared the spoils in their three previous meetings this term. ‘Well were victorious last time they met at Fir Park, winning 3-0, getting revenge for a 2-0 defeat away to Livingston whilst their other clash ended 1-1. As alluded to above it’s been Livi’s home form which has brought them the vast majority of their points, but they have drawn their last four on the road. The visitors may have their work cut out to get anything from this one against a Motherwell team who have won seven of their last nine home games. Take Motherwell to end the season on a high.
