Celtic moved seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership at the weekend but they know Motherwell usually give them a stiff test at Fir Park and will have to be at their best for all three points.

Motherwell Preview – Can Motherwell get back to winning ways and boost their hopes of third place?

It’s looking very likely that Motherwell are going to battle it out with Aberdeen for third spot. It’s been the case for much of the season and the Fir Park club hold a three point lead over their rivals. That advantage is despite a relatively low-key start to proceedings in 2020 with their only victory in the league since returning from the winter break coming away to Aberdeen. A home draw with Hibs and defeat away to Livingston at the weekend mean they have been unable to pull further clear from the Dons.

Robinson was furious with his team’s performance in that defeat to Livingston and will be hoping his public airing of that disappointment will lead to a significant improvement in his team for this one.

The last two results and performance may have been tepid but it’s a positive season overall to this point. Well’s approach to the game is refreshing and they always try to win games, as indicated by drawing just two of their 24 league games.

If Motherwell are to get a result against their visitors they are going to have to offer more threat in attack. It’s just one goal in three league games this year whilst they have also lost two of their strikers in the recent transfer window.

Celtic Preview – Are Celtic going to make it five straight league wins to start 2020 and consolidate top spot?

Rangers slipping up to Aberdeen on Saturday meant Neil Lennon knew any win away to Hamilton the following day would see Celtic go seven points clear. The champions eventually obliged having conceded the first goal, going on to win 4-1. It was a fourth straight win in the league and another example of how they can find different ways of winning games.

The three late goals against Hamilton to give Celtic the win was in stark contrast to a hugely impressive first half showing away to St Johnstone the midweek previous. Lennon knows it’s all about winning games at this stage of the season.

Odsonne Edouard continues to dazzle leading the line for Celtic. The young French striker moved to 18 league goals for the season but it’s his overall play which is so impressive. He is also in double figures for assists and appears to be getting better with each passing game.

Being paired with Griffiths up front in the last few weeks means he can drop deep and entice opposition defenders to come into areas they don’t want to be. That in turn creates space for his team-mates to operate in and it’s added a different dimension to Celtic’s play.
