Motherwell Preview – Can ‘Well make home advantage count and pick up a first win in six games?
Robinson always targets the cup competitions and he will be looking for his team to bounce back to form. Motherwell have taken only a point from their last four home matches and scored one goal during that time.
St Mirren Preview – Are struggling Saints set for a first win since the previous round of the Scottish Cup?
St Mirren’s only victory so far since returning from the winter break was against non-league Broxburn in the last round. Since that match in the middle of January the Saints have lost two and drawn four – one of which was at home to Motherwell in the original tie. Going on what we’ve seen of St Mirren under Jim Goodwin that is not overly surprising.
The Buddies are a team who struggle for goals (21 in 26 league games) but have a very reasonable defensive record and their concession of 35 is on a par with the better defensive records in the Scottish Premiership outside of Celtic and Rangers.

With just three points between themselves and bottom spot you could be forgiven for thinking that a prolonged run in the Scottish Cup is not a priority for St Mirren. However, as was shown in his team selection in the first match against Motherwell, Goodwin opted to field a full-strength team showing his intentions to go as far as possible.
The equaliser for St Mirren in the first match 10 days ago was the first time they have managed to net against Motherwell this season have lost 2-0 and 3-0 in both league meetings.

Key Facts – Motherwell vs St Mirren Betting Tip
- Motherwell have not won any of their last five matches, losing three of them
- Saints’ last win was in the previous round of the Scottish Cup. They’ve since drawn four of their last six
- The teams were set to clash on league duty at the weekend only for it to be postponed due to the weather
Despite being in poor form by their own high standards this season I’m backing Motherwell. St Mirren’s poor away form (1 win and 10 defeats in 13 games) is the biggest contributing factor for this selection. And with Motherwell close to even money it looks good value.
