Mura are playing European football for the first time in their history but have to overcome a two goal deficit in their home leg against Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa.

Europa League Qualification Betting at Paddy Power

Mura Preview – Are Mura good enough to overturn first leg defeat to progress?

This is a first foray into European football for Slovenian outfit Mura and they have work to do if they want to continue their journey. A 2-0 defeat in Israel last week was not the most welcome of results but they are still in the tie. An excellent league campaign last season seen them finish in fourth and make the Europa League qualification. Due to their lack of experience it was always going to be an uphill battle to have a prolonged run in the competition. That looked to be the case last week and the lack of away goal makes it that bit more difficult.

Maccabi to win to nil

Maccabi Haifa Preview – Will Maccabi see the tie through and qualify for the next round?

As first legs go it was as good as Maccabi could have hoped for as they brushed aside their opponents with a minimum of fuss. Coach Marco Malbul only took over at the end of 2018 and led the club to second spot in the Ligat ha’Al. Granted, they were some way behind the champions Maccabi Tel Aviv but it was a strong second half of the season. Malbul’s task is now to attempt to get the club into the group stages of the Europa League for the first time since 2013. They have negotiated the first part of that reasonably well, but there’s a long way to go to the group stage.

Mura v Maccabi Haifa Betting Advice

It proved to be a comfortable win for Maccabi in the end but they were made to wait. Mura turned in a good defensive display for the first hour, before losing two goals in the space of a couple of minutes. The challenge now, for the Slovenians, is to find a couple of goals of their own. And keep a clean sheet in the process. Despite finishing fourth last season they did struggled to win games at the back end of the campaign. It was just three wins from their last 10 in the league, and one in their last five at home.

Maccabi will be aware there is still work to do in this tie and are not through yet. The Israelis are not exactly regular competitors in European football either. That makes it hard to gauge how they will approach this game. They have lost just two of their last 17 away games in the league, though. That suggests they know how to set-up on their travels and they are good enough to get a result on Thursday in Slovenia. For some insurance, however, back the visitors to win with draw no bet.
