We are on to the quarter finals of WTA Linz and we continue to follow the journey of Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska.

This year’s French Open semi finalist has put together some impressive form in Austria so far.

But now comes her biggest challenge yet as she will be taking on fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova for a place in the final four.

Nadia Podoroska Preview – Can Podoroska continue Austrian journey?

After a brilliant showing at the French Open this year, Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska is one of the hot tickets in the game at the moment.

This is her first tournament since reaching the final four of the Grand Slam in Paris. That was achieved after having started in the first qualifying round.

In the opening round of Linz, she recorded a straight sets victory over Romani’s Irina-Camelia Begu.

Things were a little trickier for Podoroska in the second round.

She faced former Linz champion Camila Giorgi and after having dropped the opening set on a tie break, Podoroska had to work hard to get back into the match.

But she did so, dropping just the five games in the following two sets, in what was a very strong comeback.

Again there was another big show of the self confidence and belief that she has.

So far Podorksa has been the underdog in all of her matches at this tournament. She is again for this quarter final.

Our betting prediction:
Podoroska 2-1
111/2

Nadia Podorksa is the 2/1 underdog for the match win on Friday. This will be the first meeting between Pordoroska and Alexandrova* (odds taken 22:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th November).

Coming into WTA Linz, Podoroska had posted an impressive W41 L7 record in matches during 2020.

Not of all that has been in higher ranked tournaments, but the last few have. She is currently one of the top form players on the tour.

She looks as if she is going to be putting up a big fight, having played a lot more tennis this year than her opponent.

Ekaterina Alexandrova Preview – Alexandrova making steady progress

Fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova has not dropped a set in her WTA Linz campaign so far.

She opened with a victory over Katerina Siniakova before easing past Vervara Gracheva. This will be the biggest test she has faced yet.

Alexandrova is targeting her second WTA Tour title this year and this has been a good return to form for the Russian.

Since a run to the semi finals of St Petersburg in February, she has struggled to make any kind of impression in tournaments.

In fact, Alexandrova has been past the second round in just one of her tournaments played since the season was restarted.

That was at the French Open when she was beaten in the round of 32 by Elina Svitolina in straight sets.

But Alexandrova is the higher-ranked player in this fixture and she is a quote of 2/5 odds-on to pick up the victory* (odds taken 22:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th November).

That is not exactly the greatest of value to be found for tennis betting.

Because we see Podoroska as being very competitive at the moment, an Alexandrova 2-1 in set betting would appeal for punters looking at backing the favourite at 3/1* (odds taken 22:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th November).

We do expect Ekaterina Alexandrova to have a tough time in this one.

Only because she hasn’t been under any real pressure in her two matches so far in Austria. That’s likely to come her way in this one.

Prior to arriving in Austria, the last two matches that Alexandrova had played had both gone to three sets.

Nadia Podoroska vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Betting Advice

Even though she is an underdog once again, we are going to side with Podoroska to come through this fixture.

That is because we feel that this is where the real value is at for this match. The 2/1 odds on a Podoroska win are very appealing* (odds taken 22:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th November).

She has shown some superb quality already in this tournament and a good temperament to recover after a poor first set in the last round.

Key Facts – Nadia Podoroska vs Ekaterina Alexandrova Betting Tip

  • Nadia Podoroska has never met Alexandrova before
  • Nadia Podoroska was a semi finalist at the French Open
  • Ekaterina Alexandrova is ranked above Podoroska

Alexandrova was not exactly carrying tremendous form with her into the tournament, despite being the higher-ranked player.

So that’s why we think that she is vulnerable. She will know that she’s been in a scrap here.

For extended tennis betting value we are going to look at a Podoroska 2-1 set betting result at 11/2* (odds taken 22:12 GMT on Thursday, 12th November).
