Head coach Antoine Koumbare brings an ominous record into Sunday’s evening kick-off at Stade de la Beaujoire. The 57 year old is on an eight game losing streak when facing Nice, losing his first such match up as Nantes boss since arriving in February of this year 2-1 at this venue in April. Not what you want to hear after losing your last two Ligue 1 matches, going down 1-0 to each of Lyon and Rennes following an otherwise encouraging start to the season.

Les Canaris begun 2021-22 with a creditable showing and point in Monaco. Coming from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against last season’s third-place finishers. It was soon followed by a 2-0 victory at home to Metz, only their second win at this ground in nine months (D7 L7). Their loss to nil here against Lyon, however, before the international break marked the first time in nine Ligue 1 home games in which they didn’t manage to net at least once.

Key Stat: Bordeaux, in a 3-0 loss, were the only visiting team not to score in Nantes’ last thirteen Ligue 1 home games, with eight of these seeing both teams score.

 

 

Nice – Business as usual following Allianz Riviera unrest?

For their part in the troubling scenes that brought the match with Marseille at the Allianz Riviera on 22 August to an abrupt halt, the club were ordered to play their next three Ligue 1 home games behind closed doors and handed a two-point deduction (one of which is suspended). The game must also be replayed, much to the frustration of the manager Christophe Galtier and his Nice players who were on course to record their third win in four to start the new season.

The situation as it stands, then, is Nice sit sixth, prior to their visit to Nantes on Sunday, on six points. Despite a blistering start that seen them follow up a goalless draw with Stade Reims by thrashing Bordeaux and Lille 4-0. They are the only team in the division without a goal conceded, allowing 1 xGA on average through their three contests so far, while it is now five Ligue 1 games in eight, going back to last season, scoring three or more.

Key Stat: Nice have scored three first-half goals in each of their two Ligue 1 wins this season, established a lead inside the first ten minutes both times.

Nantes Vs Nice Betting Advice

Last season saw Nice extended their dominance over Nantes, winning 2-1 at home and away to leave their record over the past five seasons at W5 D3 L1. Les Aiglons have prevailed as the visiting side three of the last four times. Each coming via the same scoreline (2-1). Furthermore, they arrive on Sunday in much the better form of the sides. Whereas Nantes are coming off back-to-back 1-0 losses, Nice are bidding for an unlikely treble of 4-0 victories.

 

 

Nice are yet to concede this season. Christophe Galtier is the new man at the helm and was responsible for guiding Lille to the Ligue 1 title last season. Doing so with the best defence in the league. That record could be tested, however, by a Nantes outfit which has found the net in eight of their last nine league home games. Moreover, four of the previous five meetings between the sides held in Nantes have seen both teams among the goals.
