Juventus are moving stylishly into contention for a 10th consecutive title and have another chance to show their credentials when travelling to face Napoli on Saturday.

Napoli Preview – Will Napoli bounce back to their best after two disappointing defeats in the last week?

Pressure was increasing on Rino Gattuso even before the last week so speculation on his future has only grown after losing 2-1 to Genoa, a loss which damages their hopes of top four, and then bowing out at the semi-final stage of the Coppa Italia (a competition they won last season) following a loss to Atalanta in midweek. Gattuso will remain in place for this game at least but you do wonder how much longer he would have left should they lose in this game.

Gattuso will point to the fact that his team are just three points outside the Champions League places and their form in general since the turn of the year has not been terrible up until the last seven days. However, it’s now just six wins in 12 matches across all competitions.

There’s no doubt that Napoli have become stronger at home over the last couple of weeks and free of the vulnerabilities they’ve shown on their travels. It’s four wins in five matches at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and they have kept clean sheets in three of those whilst scoring 15 goals. That should give them some confidence as they welcome the champions.
Napoli do not have a great record against Juve, however, with just one win in their last five league games in Naples.

Juventus Preview – Fresh of reaching the Coppa Italia final, are Juve set to show their big-game mentality once again?

It’s been a typical week for the dominant Juventus we’ve all known over the last decade. They brush aside a team who are supposedly seen as title challengers (beating Roma 2-0 last weekend) and turn in a resolute performance in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter Milan to get within a game of winning more silverware. Andrea Pirlo is definitely beginning to find his feet in his role as head coach, now.

Juve travel to Naples on Saturday sitting in third place behind both Milan clubs. They’re seven points behind the leaders but do have a game in hand and are in their most consistent form of the campaign.

Pirlo will be looking for this team to improve their points return when away from home. They may only have lost one so far (away to Inter last month) but they have won just half of their 10 away matches in the league and that percentage has to increase.

Only Atalanta and Inter have scored more goals on the road, though, so there’s no doubt that the champions do have the firepower to collect more victories.

Napoli vs Juventus Betting Advice

It’s a huge game in the Italian football calendar traditionally and you feel it’s also a massively important game in the context of both team’s seasons. Napoli will have to avoid defeat otherwise it could spell the end for Gattuso whilst a win for Juventus would be significant as it would send a further message out to their title rivals that this is a team who still have the fear factor and have been over course and distance.

The first scheduled match between the two this season was cancelled and following legal battles will be played later in the campaign. Juve did beat Napoli in the Italian Super Cup.

Key Facts – Napoli vs Juventus Betting Tip

  • Napoli are unbeaten in their last five home games, winning four of them and keeping three clean sheets
  • Juve are looking for a seventh win in eight matches in all competitions
  • Napoli have managed only one win from their last five home games against Juventus in the league

Pirlo appears to have found a system which suits this players and with the gloom over Naples at the moment I’m taking the visitors to depart with all three points.
