This is action from the top half of the 2020 Darts Masters Draw. The winner of this one will most likely have to go up against outright favourite Michael van Gerwen in the Quarter Finals. Not much of a prize. Who will get there though?

The Asp can strike in opening round

This is the Masters debut for Nathan Aspinall. He actually the only debutant in this season’s edition. So there’s no track record to look back at in that respect, but he will have appeal for punters to make it through this fixture. Just back at the World Championships, he made it all the way to the semi-finals. That’s two semi-finals from two appearances at the World Championships from him.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score

(odds taken 18:12 GMT, Wednesday 29th January)

This is just the start of his second full year on the PDC and he did claim a ranking title last year, winning the UK Open. Granted the consistency still has to be found against the big guns, but he is such an exciting prospect. He trails the head to head 3-4 against Wade. Can he level things up?

Can the Machine come through the sticky opener?

England’s James Wade is the only active player in the field besides tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen to has made more than one appearance in the Masters Final. Wade lifted the title in 2014 and he made it all the way through to the Final twelve months ago where he was swatted aside by Michael van Gerwen.

Wade did start last year pretty brightly, but he has only taken one ranking title since early 2014. The thing which will appeal to punters about him is his record at the Masters. Just once in his previous six entries into the tournament has he fallen at the very first hurdle. He won the most recent between the two as well, a clash at the German Open last year.

Nathan Aspinall vs James Wade Betting Advice

There really has not been the high-profile tournament meetings between these two to really gauge where they are at in the head to head. Aspinall’s last two wins over Wade, for example, happened at PDC Players Championship events.

Key Facts – Nathan Aspinall vs James Wade Betting Tip

  • Nathan Aspinall trails Wade 3-4 in the head to head
  • Nathan Aspinall is making his Masters debut
  • James Wade won the Masters title in 2014

There have been pretty tight duels between these two in their most recent head to head meetings and given that this is Aspinall’s debut at the Masters, and he is taking on last year’s finalists, then Wade should just get the nod as the underdog.
