He is the red hot favourite to claim the victory in this opening round match.

Neil Robertson Preview – Robertson expected to power through

Former Masters champion Neil Roberston is the 2/9 favourite to win this fixture* (odds taken 19:34 GMT Monday, 11th January).

Robertson does bring some current into proceeding here after claiming the UK Championship title in early December.

The one Masters title that Robertson claimed was in 2012.

He has been past the first round in all but one of his last eight Masters appearances, reaching the final twice since claiming that title.

This does appear to be a fairly comfortable opening fixture for Robertson as this year’s Masters.

For a bit of extended value, a Robertson 6-2 correct score option is at 4/1* (odds taken 19:34 GMT Monday, 11th January).

This will be just the third meeting between the two players.

 

The head to head is one win each from those two previous meetings.

Robertson won the first clash at the 2015 Champion of Champions tournament.

The most recent meeting happened in the 2019 UK Championship when Bingtao powered to a big win.

Given that Robertson has been to two ranking tournament finals this season along with reaching the final of the Champion of Champions event in November, he looks a strong snooker betting option.

 

Yan Bingtao Preview – Can Bingtao pull off an upset?

China’s Yan Bingtao only has five seasons of professional snooker behind him.

But he has done enough to earn his spot at the Masters for the first time.

So this is a big occasion for him and Yan Bingato is the current 10/3 underdog to collect the match win* (odds taken 19:34 GMT Monday, 11th January).

It would be quite a sizable upset, but then last year’s Masters was full of shock first-round results.

The best efforts that Bingtao has come up with in the big ranking events of the season was quarter final berths.

He got to the final eight in both the European Masters and the Northern Ireland Open.

In his last three ranking events though the Chinaman has gone out in the second round each time.

So he’s not expected to turn up here in Milton Keynes and be a particularly big threat in the Masters field.

A Yan Bingtao +1.5 handicap is at 2/1 for Masters snooker betting* (odds taken 19:34 GMT Monday, 11th January).

We think that he will do well to get anywhere near Robertson on the day, at least that is what it looks like on paper.

But then if he needed any confidence he could look back to that UK Championship win over Roberston in 2019 which was emphatic.
