Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw here in New England against Orlando City, a direct rival for a top-seven berth in the east, wasn’t a bad result per se. The point kept them in sixth place, though that could change by the time kick-off rolls around on Sunday. While that is now eight league games unbeaten – with three wins and four draws – since sustaining a fifth defeat in eight to begin the season at DC United on 23 April.

For the record, the Revs hasn’t given up more than 1xGA in any of the past four games yet still managed to ship five. They are now without a defensive shutout since beating Inter Miami 2-0 at the end of April, seven games ago.

Minnesota United – Loons looking a little deflated?
The Loons’ middling form continued with a 1-0 home loss to New York City immediately prior to the recent international break. Adrian Heath demanded a big response from his team following their “embarrassing” MLS Cup exit to USL League One side Union Omaha in the days before, and he probably got that in terms of the overall performance. The result, however, means it is one win in six MLS matches (D1 L4).
Minnesota were a match for the best team in the Eastern Conference, which should augur well ahead of facing the current sixth best side from the same division. That said, their record in New England isn’t great – two losses from two visits, conceding seven. Nor, for that matter, is their recent record when asked to travel, with defeats to Austin, LAFC and Seattle all coming prior to a recent 2-1 win over FC Dallas.
Key Stat: Minnesota United hadn’t scored more than once in any of their first five MLS away games to start the 2022 season, going W1 D1 L3 in these games. Positive strides were therefore made in their latest road encounter, a 2-1 win over FC Dallas.

There has yet to be a drawn encounter between the teams, with all three prior MLS head-to-heads seeing the home team prevail in high-scoring duels (Over 2.5 Goals each time). New England are chipping away rather than purring, though, and I’ll admit odds of 13/20 about a team with just four wins in their last 13 league fixtures doesn’t immediately scream “BACK ME!”
