New England Preview – Can Revolution record what would be just a second home win of the season?

Now 18 months in charge, we’re beginning to see Bruce Arena having an impact on this New England team. He came midway through the 2019 campaign and able to to finish the Revs in the Eastern Conference Playoff positions but were eliminated at the first stage with a narrow loss in Atalanta. They sit in sixth spot after 15 matches and currently in the last finals’ series spot. That may not seem an obvious improvement but they have been good of late.

New England come into this game looking to extend their unbeaten run to five games and have lost just two of their last 10 in the MLS.

Arena will be somewhat frustrated following his side dropping points at home to Nashville at the weekend, meaning they’ve had two goalless draws in their last three home games. Scoring goals does not come as easily for New England as it does for the teams ahead of them. Their 15 goals so far is the lowest of any of the top seven in their conference.
The Revs have some big conference matches to come over the next couple of weeks which could go a long way to determining where they finish and this is a big test of their potential post-season credentials.

Toronto Preview – Will last year’s runners up make it four straight wins to cement their position at the top?

We didn’t require proof but Toronto have shown once again that they remain one of the top teams in the MLS. Champions in 2017 and runners up last year, the Canadians are in excellent form just now and sit joint top only off first place because of an inferior goal different compared to Columbus Crew. Greg Vanney is one of the longest serving coaches in the MLS now in his sixth year and that consistency is a real asset.

Toronto have won four of their last five and seven of their last 10 to move stylishly into contention to win the Eastern Conference.

That won’t be Vanney’s main objective, however, as he aims to win the franchise’s second ever MLS Cup. As is the case with this club it’s very much about the collective rather than the standout individual players. Ayomide Akinola is having a breakthrough season with seven goals in 10 matches. He may have just two in his last eight games but his emergence has been a real bonus to the team.

When you consider Toronto have beaten three of the top five – including the leaders – in the past couple of weeks, you sense they really mean business just now.

New England vs Toronto Betting Advice

This could well be one of the games come the playoffs and we will get an insight into how much improvement there has been in the New England team. Toronto have nothing to prove but they will want to move into outright top spot such is their thirst for success. And their recent form has been excellent – sending out a message to the other contenders.

If the visitors are to continue their winning run they will have to find a first success here in seven years.

Key Facts – New England vs Toronto Betting Tip

  • New England currently sit sixth but they have won just one of their seven home matches
  • Winners in 2017, Toronto sit joint top of the Eastern Conference along with Columbus Crew
  • Toronto have not won away in this fixture in seven years

New England are one of the rarities in the MLS in that they pick up more points on the road than they do at home. They’ve drawn five of their last seven home matches and I can see this one ending a similar way after a tough run for the visitors.
