The American MLS continues this weekend, and my next pick features an all-Eastern Conference clash between in-form New York City and Columbus Crew at Yankee Stadium with the hosts looking to post a third consecutive league win here.
New York City have registered back-to-back wins in recent weeks with victories gained over crosstown neighbours New York Red Bulls as well as a convincing 3-0 win over Montreal Impact. The impressive aspect about the Montreal win was that the home side managed this without the injured David Villa, and while he’s doubtful for this clash, New York have the likes of Moralez (7 goals, 6 assists) along with Medina (4 assists).
New York hold a decent home record too with stats of 9-1-0 25/4 which includes six clean sheets, and momentum certainly seems to be with the hosts ahead of this encounter, and three points for City here could see them move level with Atlanta United at the top of the Conference.
Columbus Crew come into this Eastern Conference encounter on the back of a heavy 4-0 defeat away at LA Galaxy last time out, and having registered just one win from their last seven matches overall, the visitors look to be up against it here to get a result.
The Crew’s only success during this barren spell was a 2-1 home win over Real Salt Lake at their MAPFRE Stadium in Ohio, but recent defeats to Atlanta United, Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy suggest they could struggle against one of the best teams in the MLS so far this season.
In addition, an away record of 2-3-4 3/8 includes just one win from their last eight matches on their travels, which was a 1-0 win away at fifth placed New England Revolution, but with the lowest goalscoring record away from home in the Conference so far, Columbus could well struggle here.
