Newcastle United Prediction – Can Newcastle make top half?

A 13th place finish at the end of last season’s Premier League campaign was about right for Newcastle United who showed flashes of promise but also displayed inconsistency.

However, The Magpies ended last season’s campaign in promising fashion as they lost just 1 out of their final 5 matches of last term.

That defeat was a 3-2 loss at hopme to high-flying Liverpool who were desperately fighting for a league title over Manchester City.

Wins toward the end of the season though against Leicester City, Southampton and Fulham – the latter being a 4-0 win at Craven Cottage, gave Newcastle cause for optimism for this season.

It was therefore a strange and baffling series of events then when former manager Rafa Benitez left the club, and was replaced by former Sunderland boss, Steve Bruce.

Although Bruce has close ties with the north-east, his appointment wasn’t fully embraced by the locals and the jury is likely to be out for the first few weeks of this season.

Bruce also has to find a way of getting more goals out of his squad particularly away from home, especially as the likes of Perez and Rondon have both left the club.

Between them, Perez and Rondon scored a total of 23 goals out of Newcastle’s total of 42 overall, so they’ll certainly leave a big gap.

Arsenal Prediction – Can Arsenal improve on road?

Although Arsenal finished in 5th place and just 1 point behind their north London rivals, Tottenham, it was largely thanks to their form at The Emirates.

The Gunners suffered just 2 defeats on home turf at their Emirates Stadium throughout the whole of last season’s Premier League campaign.

But it was Arsenal’s stuttering and unconvincing form and results away from home that prevented them from achieving a Champions League spot.

Overall form towards the end of last term saw Arsenal gain just 1 win out of their last 5 matches overall, with their one highlight being a 3-1 win away at Burnley.

But an away record of 7-4-8 31/35 just wasn’t good enough for a side that held ambitions for a top four finish in the English top flight.

The London club finished with just 3 away wins out of their last 13 matches on their travels, with victories at Huddersfield Town, Watford and the aforementioned Burnley result.

However, Arsenal hold an excellent record over their hosts, Newcastle United as they’ve won 12 of the last 13 encounters against The Magpies.

In addition, The Gunners look likely to start with their two leading goalscorers from last season, Aubameyang and Lacazette, up front.

Key-Facts – Newcastle United v Arsenal

  • Newcastle United lost just 1 of their last 5 matches of the EPL last season
  • Newcastle are without strikers, Gayle, Rondon and Perez (the latter two have left)
  • Arsenal have won 12 of the last 13 encounters against Newcastle United

Betting Tips Verdict

Newcastle United enter yet another new era without some key attacking personnel while Arsenal will be keen to continue their domination against their hosts.
