Newcastle United eased their relegation worries last time out in the Premier League when they secured a valuable three points with a resounding 3-0 home win over fellow relegation strugglers Cardiff City, but Tuesday night’s encounter against Manchester City will be one of their biggest tests yet this season, despite being at home.
The recent 3-0 win over The Bluebirds is Newcastle’s biggest win of this season to date and matches their last time they won 3-0 which was against Chelsea at the end of last season. The hosts have done just enough to keep their heads above water and the relegation zone but it’s barely a pass-mark as they sit one place and two points above third from bottom Cardiff City.
Newcastle United manager, Rafa Benitez, is likely to set his side up as if they’re playing away form home and try and hit City on the counter, but although they’ve recorded recent wins against Watford and Bournemouth, these were before Christmas and since then, The Magpies have slumped to defeats to West Ham, Wolves and Manchester United.
Nevertheless, Rafa will have a plan to try and frustrate City here, and given the last two encounters at St James’ Park against The Citizens has ended 1-0 and 1-1, this match could be a lot tighter than many imagine.

Manchester City continue to play catch-up to Premier League leaders Liverpool as they trail The Reds by four points as we head into these crucial midweek fixtures in the English top flight. Nevertheless, Manchester City have hit supreme form perhaps at just the right time as they’ve won their last eight matches in all competitions on the trot.
City hit the headlines with a recent 9-0 demolition of League One outfit Burton Albion but that comes as no surprise as Pep Guardiola’s men have been thrown the gauntlet by Liverpool, and they’ve responded in devastating fashion.
The visitors have hit an amazing 33 goals in these last eight matches and although Guardiola has continually rotated his squad accordingly, they continue to churn out the same resounding results which doesn’t bode well for Newcastle United tonight.
City possess an away record of 7-2-2 22/7 which most mortals would be more than happy with but this includes defeats at Chelsea and Leicester City, and the visitors have been involved in just 3 away matches on their travels this season that have exceeded the over 3.5 mark.
