Newcastle Preview – Can Steve Bruce possible achieve a top-half finish for the magpies?

Inconsistency would be the perfect way to describe Newcastle’s recent form as of late. An unfortunate 2-1 loss to Watford through two penalties on Saturday was still not enough to overshadow the 5-0 drubbing they faced at the hands of Manchester City.

The magpies sit 13th in the table, with 43 points, seven behind 10th placed Burnley. A top-half finish is not out of the question. However, a change in form is needed in order for that to occur.

 

As mentioned prior, Newcastle’s form recently has been varied, to say the least. Since Project Restart they have played 6; won 2, lost 2 and drawn 2. Conceding 11 goals in those matches for an average of 1.83 goals per game.

Newcastle usually robust in defense, especially at home with only 3 losses all season, have started leaking goals. Their lack of goals that have plagued them for the majority of the year has meant that if they go a goal down its hard for them to recover and get back into the game.

Newcastle will be looking at the likes of Saint-Maximin, Almiron and Gayle to chip in with goals if they hope to get anything from the game.

 

Tottenham Preview – Can Jose and Spurs reach European football?

There’s no question that Jose Mourinho has had an effect on the side of this spurs side. They have become more structured in defense and are visibly ready to grind out results in typical Jose fashion. His win at all costs mentality however, does have a negative effect on the viewing experience and creativity in the team.

7 goals in their last 6 is a far cry of expected return when the team consists of players such as Kane, Son and Alli.

Team morale is expected to be high after the North London derby win on Sunday, logic would suggest players will have a bit more spring in their step.

Jose mentioned that he is targeting finishing in a Europa League spot this season, they sit 3 points away from Wolves in 6th with 3 games left to play. A win on Wednesday night will be a perfect way to reach that coveted spot.
